The main event of UFC Vegas 89 sees Rose Namajunas take on Amanda Ribas in a five-round women’s flyweight bout. Namajunas is a -180 favorite, and I like her to win this fight.

Namajunas is 31 and she is 9-5 in the UFC. The American is a two-time UFC women’s strawweight champion and she has been one of the best in the world ever since entering the Octagon a decade ago. Five of her nine UFC wins have come by stoppage, and she has fought the best women on the planet consistently for a decade now. She has great striking and a slick submission game, and she has proven time and time again she can go five hard rounds. 

That being said, Namajunas has lost her last two fights heading into this, so she is at a crossroads in her career. This is a huge fight for her, and she needs to win to turn her career around.

Ribas is 30 and she is 7-3 in the UFC. The Brazilian made her UFC debut in 2019 and she has done well since then at both 115 lbs and 125 lbs, scoring three finishes in the Octagon while fighting solid competition throughout. She has a great ground game that was her calling card when she came into the Octagon, and she has also improved her striking throughout the years as well. 

That being said, her striking defense is a question mark with two knockout losses in the Octagon. Against Namajunas, her best path to win is to take this fight to the ground. While she can hold her own on the feet, it feels like she’ll be outgunned there, so the takedown will be key.

Namajunas shouldn’t be written off just because she lost to two great fighters by close decisions in her last two fights. She is still one of the best UFC women’s fighters of all time, and I like her to bounce back here with a win over Ribas. Even though Ribas is coming off a nice knockout win in her last fight, Namajunas is the far superior striker, and if she keeps this fight standing, she should be able to shine in this fight. 

Ribas doesn’t move her head, and Namajunas should be able to outland her opponent for as long as the fight lasts. Given it’s a 25-minute fight, and Ribas has been knocked out in three of her last four losses, a knockout seems likely here. Go with Namajunas as a -180 favorite to win, and take her to win this fight by knockout for a prop.

The Mexican had a great UFC debut when he knocked out veteran Julian Erosa in an upset but lost to Kyle Nelson despite being a big favorite in his sophomore UFC fight. Padilla is an exciting fighter who has won 13 fights by stoppage in his career, and he can finish his opponents both on the feet and on the ground. 

He is tough, having lost all five of his losses via decision. However, he hasn’t fought someone who is as heavy-handed as Pajuelo is. This should be a war, and Padilla’s chin will be tested here.

Pajuelo is 29 and the Peruvian is making his UFC debut. He won via knockout on Dana White’s Contender Series last year against top prospect Robbie Ring to earn a UFC deal, his fifth win in a row overall. 

He is a devastating knockout artist who can take his fights into deep water and hurt his opponents throughout the 15 minutes. He is also very durable, having never lost via stoppage in his career, making for an entertaining fight against a fellow striker in Padilla.

This should be a dogfight between two fighters who will stand and trade for the fans. In my opinion, the difference between these two fighters is Pajuelo’s willingness to come forward and do more damage throughout the fight. A

lthough Padilla has never been finished, I think this is the fight where it finally happens as Pajuelo is a true finisher. Go with Pajuelo to win this fight as a +150 underdog, and take him to win this fight by TKO for a prop bet.

Errens is 29 and the Dutchman is 0-2 in the UFC. He lost a hard-fought majority decision to William Gomis in his UFC debut and then lost another decision to Seung Woo Choi in his next fight.
