This weekend the UFC’s 10-week long run of events concludes with UFC Vegas 43. In the main event, former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate makes her second octagon appearance since returning from retirement earlier this year when she faces seventh-ranked contender Ketlen Vieira.

It’s a big step up in competition from Tate’s return bout against Marion Reneau, but one that could position Tate for a title shot with a win, so let’s take a look at the UFC betting odds available this weekend on our sports betting apps.

UFC Vegas 43: Ketlen Vieira vs. Miesha Tate Fight Analysis

Vieira burst onto the UFC scene in 2016, winning her first four fights, including victories over divisional stalwarts Cat Zingano and Sara McMann, and priming herself for a shot at the bantamweight title. Unfortunately, after her hot start, Vieira cooled off substantially, competing only once a year and losing two of her last three, including in her last bout where she also missed weight.

Vieira is a black belt in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, and though she’s not averse to striking, she much prefers to drag fights to the floor where her grappling skills set her apart from most of her peers.

Similarly, Tate is also primarily a grappler, though she’s a better striker than Vieira. Tate won the Strikeforce and UFC bantamweight titles on the back of her solid wrestling foundation and her submission skills on the mat. Though she is not the world’s most technical fighter, either on the feet or on the floor, Tate is doggedly tough and has the cardio to push the pace when necessary.

Vieira vs. Tate UFC Vegas 43 Best Bet

The oddsmakers at sportsbooks and on betting sites believe this is a very close fight, with most books having this down as a near pick'em, and there’s good reason for that: It is.

Both women are good grapplers and uninspiring strikers, and there are questions about where both women are in their careers. Ultimately, this fight is going to come down to wrestling. Neither fighter excels off their backs so whoever can score takedowns is almost certainly going to win the fight, and if neither can, then Tate will edge it.

Both instances favor Tate, who has the championship experience to take advantage of the sometimes mercurial Vieira. I like Tate to keep it competitive early and then run away with things in the later rounds. Take Tate at -104 on FanDuel.

Other UFC Vegas 43 Odds To Back

Michael Chiesa vs. Sean Brady: In the co-main event, two top-15 welterweights face off when Michael Chiesa battles rising prospect Sean Brady. Chiesa is a big-bodied grappler with sneaky submissions, whereas Brady represents the fabled Jack-Of-All-Trades skillset.

I’ve been consistently wrong, waiting for Chiesa to falter at 170 but that ends now. Brady is one of the best prospects in the sport, with a 100% takedown defense. He is going to force Chiesa to stand with him and on the feet, and Brady should run over Chiesa. Brady at -150 on FOX Bet is the play.

Joanne Wood vs. Taila Santos: In a main card strawweight bout, divisional staple Joanne Wood (formerly Calderwood) faces rising prospect Taila Santos for what is likely a spot in the top-15 of the division. Wood has a Muay Thai background and that’s where she makes her hay.

Santos also comes from a Muay Thai background but has extensive grappling training as well, and actually prefers to take fights to the mat. In that, she should have little issue as Wood has never been the best wrestler in the division. Santos by Decision at -130 on FanDuel is the play.
