Ben Pauling was born in October 1983 and has collected a number of Grade 1 successes throughout his training career. Coming from a farming background in Gloucestershire, Ben’s father was a point-to-point trainer, and Ben followed in his footsteps. The initial entry into training started by working as an assistant to Nicky Henderson, and this was a role that he held for a number of years.
Once Pauling went out on his own, he secured a trainer licence in 2013. Having a yard at Bourton-on-the-Water gave him a foot up. Eight horses were initially in his stable, but the operation was soon expanded. Barters Hill was a first Grade 1 success for Ben. This came in the Challow Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury in 2015. At the 2017 Cheltenham Festival, there was a success for Willoughby Court in the Baring Bingham Novices’ Hurdle.
The most notable winner was The Jukebox Man in the 2025 King George VI Chase, although Pauling has enjoyed lots of other successes. There have been four winners at Cheltenham Festival meetings, including Willoughby Court, Le Breuil and Global Citizen.
