Tottenham Hotspur concluded the January with two first-team players heading through the door at Hotspur Way: Pedro Porro and Arnaut Danjuma.

Following a month-long negotiation with Sporting CP, with several twists and turns, Spurs finally got a deal for Porro over the line. The north London club headed into the window with right wing-back at the top of their list of positions that they wanted to reinforce.

After two very successful years in Lisbon and two impressive performances against Antonio Conte’s side in the Champions League, Porro was top of the list of RWB targets. The Spaniard looks the perfect fit for Conte’s wing-back system and should offer the Italian far more of a threat from the right than his previous options, which could make them dark horses for Champions League glory at soccer betting apps.

This season, the 23-year-old has three goals and 11 assists to his name in all competitions. This could genuinely be a world-class signing for Tottenham and significantly strengthen an area of real concern.

Meanwhile, Danjuma was the other arrival in January, signing on loan from Villarreal with an option to buy. This looks like a shrewd bit of business from Spurs as they get a cheap forward through the door who can play anywhere across the attack and brings Champions League level experience.

The Dutchman played a key role in helping Villarreal reach the Champions League semi-final last season.

Tottenham addressed two key areas in the squad last month by signing a starting right wing-back and an attacking option to come off the bench, but plenty of work remains ahead of the summer in order to compete with rivals such as Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. Here are the four key areas that need to be addressed:

Goalkeeper

Hugo Lloris is now 36, and his performances this season have shown his time at the top is coming to an end: Spurs must target a long-term successor for the Frenchman.

Lloris was always an outstanding shot-stopper, but one part of his game that has let him down is his ability with his feet. This has limited Spurs’ ability to play out from the back, so ideally bringing in a new number one who can also play would boost their odds with Premier League betting sites ahead of next season.

Ideal target: David Raya (Brentford)

Left Central Defender

Since signing Toby Alderweireld back in 2015, the club have signed five center backs, four of which have been a disaster, with Cristian Romero being the only hit.

Next summer, it is imperative that Tottenham land two top-level central defenders, if they are to be a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League and a team to be seriously considered when making Premier League picks at soccer betting sites.

For the left side, Tottenham need to find a very similar style player to Romero: A young, aggressive defender who is also very comfortable carrying the ball up the pitch.

Ideal target: Piero Hincapié (Bayer Leverkusen)

Middle Central Defender

As mentioned, two new central defenders are required. Spurs must upgrade on Eric Dier, but also need an experienced player who can lead and organize the back line.

Ideally, the north Londoners should target a player with a different style to Romero and that of the new LCB. A player who is less aggressive than the two wide center backs but still very good and composed on the ball would be ideal.

Ideal target: Kim Min-jae (Napoli)

Central Midfielder

Tottenham have a solid midfield partnership in Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur, but it feels like the Dane can be upgraded upon if they are to be contenders for the Premier League and more on UK betting sites.

Tottenham often seem to lose control in the middle of the park and need another player who can offer both creativity and better ball retention.

Ideal target: Manuel Ugarte (Sporting CP)
