Which Premier League Fans Cause the Most Tube Congestion?

The London Underground and the Premier League go together well. After all, the world’s oldest urban public transit system and modern football itself both can claim 1863 (the year the FA was founded) as a birth date.

As for the present day, Bookies.com wanted to know which Tube stations become the most congested from supporters going to top-flight football games. These statistics on crowded Tube stations won’t help your football betting knowledge, but they might help you plan better, especially if you’re attending away days in London.

Which Club Causes The Most Congestion At A Tube Station?

By far the most popular stop is for fans alighting at Arsenal Station on the way to see, well, Arsenal. That’s the closest stop to The Emirates Stadium, which has a capacity of just over 60,000, and when it's the day of a game, traffic there is nearly tenfold its normal volume.

London’s most decorated club have led the title race for most of the season. As of April 27, The Gunners are neck and neck with Manchester City in Premier League title odds at UK betting sites.

Arsenal led the league by nine points just a few weeks ago, albeit with one more game played than Man City. But after two Premier League losses in the past three fixtures, including one at Man City, supporters jumping off at the Arsenal stop to cheer on their club have had to intently mind the gap, so to speak, to Pep Guardiola’s club.

Other Stations Crowded On Game Days

Two smaller West London clubs, Fulham (nearest Tube station Putney Bridge) and Brentford (Gunnersbury) cause some commotion on the London Underground during game days. Both stations have more than twice the normal traffic when the Cottagers or the Bees host games.

Both clubs are quite safe for next season, residing in the top half of the table and fighting for possible European places for the 2026-27 campaign.

From Putney Bridge to Gunnersbury is a bit more than 30 minutes on The Tube. The teams just met on the 18th of April, with Fulham drawing 0-0 at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium.

Two London Clubs For One Spot?

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are farther down our list and they are far down the Premier League table as well. It seems very likely that one of those teams won’t be in the Prem next season.

The Hammers are 17th in the table with 36 points and Spurs are 18th with 34 points at this writing, with four matches remaining for each. Only a total collapse from either Leeds United (40 points) or Nottingham Forest (39) will prevent London from losing one of its name-brand clubs to relegation.

At top UK betting apps, Tottenham are slight favorites to be relegated, joining Wolves and Burnley in The Championship next season. It seems near certain that either Spurs or West Ham, both with stadiums holding more than 60,000, will host the likes of Charlton Athletic and Queens Park Rangers for London derbies in the second flight next season, rather than Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea et al.

Two notes about our list. Selhurst Park, the home of Crystal Palace, is a long walk from any Tube station and is best served by trains, so Palace is not included on our list. Also, we did not account for other forms of public transportation. Some grounds might be better served with various bus or train stops, but we only counted foot traffic at Tube stations for this list.
