Burton Albion are currently looking for a new manager after Dino Maamria was sacked in December. A fourth straight League One defeat against Stevenage left the Staffordshire outfit just two places and four points above the relegation zone. The Brewers are now searching for a replacement, with former boss Gary Rowett heading the betting market with most UK betting sites. He leads the market from Steve Cotterill and Scott Brown at present.

Will Rowett Return to the Pirelli Stadium?

Gary Rowett started his managerial career at Burton Albion, with the 49-year-old taking charge between 2012-14. He guided the Brewers towards the top of League Two before getting the chance to manage Birmingham City in the Championship, with the manager then enjoying a two-year spell at St Andrews before being sacked so that Gianfranco Zola could replace him.

There have also been relatively successful stints with Derby County and Stoke City, while Rowett was hired as the new Millwall manager in October 2019, with the manager engineering top-half finishes during his first three seasons at The Den and nearly led them to the playoffs for a spot in the Premier League last season. However, he left the London club in October this year and could potentially be open to a return to Burton, especially with his Midlands connections. His price with most betting apps certainly suggests he will be among the candidates spoken to.

Cotterill Could Be a Good Fit For Burton

Steve Cotterill is a vastly experienced manager who might be open to the prospect of improving Burton Albion’s fortunes. The 59-year-old was most recently in charge of Shrewsbury Town and was considered to have performed well with the Shropshire club but resigned in June 2023 after a three-year spell.

Previously to this, Cotterill has managed clubs such as Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City. He was able to guide the latter to the League One title in 2015, and there’s also a League Two promotion on his track record with Notts County, which was achieved five years earlier. It’s easy to see him being among the leading candidates to get the job with football betting sites.
