Since manager Kieran McKenna had been linked with a number of Premier League roles over the last year or two, it had been assumed that when he left it would be for pastures new. However, McKenna announced Wednesday that he saw this as a perfect opportunity to take a break from football after leading Ipswich into the Premier League once again.
That, of course, means that the best football betting sites have been busy opening a market on who might replace the Northern Irishman who has done such an impressive job. Betting sites have current Strasbourg coach Gary O’Neil has the favourite to take over. He has previous Premier League experience keeping teams in the league so is likely to be an intriguing option.
Other names on the market at top betting apps include Liam Rosenior, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Kim Hellberg.

Gary O'Neil Premier League Experience Makes Him Early Favourite
It wasn’t that long ago that Gary O’Neil was considered one of the rising stars of Premier League management following an impressive first season at Wolves in 2023/24, guiding the club to 14th in the Premier League and to the FA Cup quarter-finals. Things soured quite quickly after that, though, and O’Neil was given his marching orders in December 2024 after a dreadful first half of the season.
Some 18 months later and O’Neil was back in management at Strasbourg, taking the side to a Coupe de France semi-final and to eighth in Ligue 1. Although he’s only been in charge of the French club for six months, O’Neil may target a return to England to try to prove himself in the Premier League once again. The odds at Apple Pay betting sites would suggest he is high on the list of candidates.

Liam Rosenior Ready For Another Chance at Premier League
Liam Rosenior probably thought he had nothing to lose taking the Chelsea job, but it went wrong for him there in spectacular fashion. Defeats are one thing, but reports about how he wasn’t being respected by the players are quite another.
This could be a great fit for him to get his career back on track. Ipswich have been doing things the right way for a number of years now, even sticking with McKenna despite relegation from the Premier League. Their squad seems like a professional one, and that sounds like the environment Liam Rosenior needs rather than a changing room full of egos.
However, whether Rosenior has anything on his CV that really stands out is the real issue. He did a good but not great job at both Hull and Strasbourg, and that might not be enough for the Ipswich board to give him the nod.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a Realistic Candidate?
While taking on an unemployed manager who’s been sacked from the only two roles he’s had in the last eight years might seem an odd approach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer knows the English game very well and has played and managed at the top level.
He’s been criticised for his lack of tactical astuteness in his managerial career but has been working with UEFA since 2023 as a technical observer, which may well help in that regard. If Ipswich want a big name at the helm to replace McKenna, Solskjaer has often shown a desire to get back into the English game. He’s an intriguing option on new betting sites.

Kim Hellberg Would Surely Jump At Premier League Opportunity
It’s tough to know what to make of Kim Hellberg’s spell in charge in Middlesbrough so far. On the face of it, a defeat in the playoff final looks like a pretty decent fist of things. However, when he took charge, they were second in the league quite comfortably having only lost two of their opening 16 matches under Rob Edwards.
Boro limped over the line to finish fifth in the league and consequently lost their semi-final to Southampton before Spygate gave them a lifeline they couldn’t take advantage of. That said, he’s built up a reputation as a good manager and could be the right sort of profile to take over from McKenna. His odds at most fast withdrawal betting sites would agree with that too.
