Paddy Power have given the record-breaking son of Frankel, who passed through Newmarket’s Tattersalls sales ring on Wednesday, a 100/1 quote to follow in the footsteps of his illustrious sibling and win the Investec Derby.

A titanic bidding war between arch-rivals Coolmore and Godolphin at Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale was won by Sheikh Mohammed's operation, who paid 3,100,000gns for the half-brother to Derby winner Golden Horn.

The as yet unnamed colt is out of Fleche Do’Or, an unraced daughter of Godolphin’s top-class miler Dubai Destination, and is also a sibling to the Listed-winning Champs Elysees filly Eastern Belle.

The colt is sure to attract plenty of attention when he makes it to the racecourse in 2020 and Paddy Power’s opening quote could very easily look on the big side should he follow in the footsteps of Golden Horn in winning on his racecourse debut.

Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield told Bookies.com: "This half-brother to 2015 Derby hero Golden Horn walked around the sales ring like a king which is just as well as he cost a king’s ransom.

"Huge sums are never a guarantee of success in the sport that ‘tames lions’, but 100/1 will look generous if he emulates his illustrious sibling and makes an impressive winning debut in a nice maiden somewhere."

Most Expensive Offspring of Frankel

King Power, a filly in training with Andrew Balding, had previously held the record for being the most expensive offspring of Frankel having been bought for 2,500,000gns at the same Newmarket sale in 2017.

Anthony Stroud of consigners Norelands Stud said: "He looked really well and has an outstanding pedigree.

"We stand Golden Horn and he's looking a promising stallion. This colt is an exceptional-looking horse and it's not often you get the opportunity to buy a half-brother to a Derby winner by such a great sire."

Coolmore and Godolphin had clashed earlier on day one over a Dubawi half-brother to Barney Roy, who went the way of Godolphin at 3,600,000gns, and the two heavyweights of Flat racing come together on the track in Saturday’s Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes, where the Godolphin-owned Pinatubo bids to cement his place as champion two-year-old.

The National Stakes hero must see off four Aidan O’Brien-trained rivals, the pick of which looks to be 4/1 second favourite Wichita, who has been supplemented at a cost of £40,000.
