Scott McTominay has played just a handful of minutes for Manchester United this season, with the midfielder potentially heading out of the exit door at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old came through the youth academy at the north-west club and has made 145 appearances since 2017, and he’s an important player for Scotland. Many football betting sites see McTominay's future away from Old Trafford, but will a deal be done before the end of the transfer window?

It appears as though West Ham are the main interested party when it comes to landing McTominay. However, United are certainly not going to allow the Scot to go to a Premier League rival cheaply, especially with two years remaining on his current contract, and Erik ten Hag could want to keep him at the club for the time being with the Champions League group stage just around the corner.

Will West Ham Put a Suitable Offer on Table?

It appears that West Ham are at the front of the queue to sign Scott McTominay, with the London club having reportedly held talks with the midfielder in the past. Fellow Scot David Moyes will be well aware of the midfielder’s ability after his short stint as manager at Old Trafford, and it could be that the player is the natural replacement for Declan Rice, who joined Arsenal earlier this summer.

It appears that Manchester United value McTominay at £45 million, and it comes down to whether West Ham are prepared to spend that amount of money. They recently added James Ward-Prowse to their ranks from Southampton, and it might be that they are unprepared to spend that level of money on the Scotland international.

The latest odds on the best betting apps suggest that the Hammers are the club most likely to capture McTominay should he make the move away from Old Trafford. However, it could be that the player is willing to stay at the club and compete for his place. He hasn’t always been first-choice since making his debut, but the fact that this is his boyhood club might well count for something.

Could Everton Make a Late Bid for McTominay?

Everton have been fairly quiet in the summer transfer market, and the team have made a poor start to the season. Funds are fairly tight at Goodison Park due to the construction of their new stadium, but the acquisiton of Scott McTominay could significantly boost the Toffees’ survival chances. It appears that the Merseyside outfit have shown an interest in the midfielder several times before.

McTominay would certainly bring some steel to Everton’s midfield, with Sean Dyche having already acquired Jack Harrison on loan from Leeds United. Ashley Young, Arnaut Danjuma and Youssef Chermiti are other players to have arrived at Everton, although the Scotland international would be the biggest addition.

At the age of 26, McTominay still has a lot of his career ahead of him, and this could end up being a good long-term deal for a player who would almost certainly be a first-team regular under Dyche. The tough-tackling midfielder would fit in with the manager’s style of play and certainly be a valuable asset.

Newcastle Linked to McTominay in the Past

Newcastle United have done some excellent transfer business since being acquired by new owners, and perhaps their summer spending hasn’t quite finished. McTominay made just 10 starts for Manchester United last season, and perhaps he could get more game time for a Magpies team who make a foray into the Champions League this term.

McTominay is a vastly-experienced player who has been turning out for the Red Devils for six years, and perhaps his knowhow can be a valuable attribute when it comes to domestic and European competitions this season. Newcastle could certainly afford to stump up the £45 million asking price.

Sandro Tonali has already arrived at St James’ Park, while Bruno Guimares is part of the furniture when it comes to the first team. Therefore, perhaps McTominay isn’t desired as much by Newcastle as he would have been 12 months ago, and that is reflected in the latest odds with betting sites.
