Tip 1 - 2:48 Nottingham - Tumishi
There’s some guesswork involved here, with six of the field of 10 making their debut. James Fanshawe runners at Nottingham are usually worth noting. The trainer has a roughly 20% strike rate here over the last five seasons with a level stakes profit to boot. At 180,000 guineas, Tumishi is the most expensive of the newcomers. There’s been a little bit of money around for him this morning and he looks a very interesting debutant.

Tip 2 - 4:18 Nottingham - Something Splendid
Last four results of 11th, 4th and 9th don’t inspire lots of confidence, but there’s reason to believe Something Splendid is overpriced here. Those three results have come in Class 2s and 3s, and now he drops back into a Class 5, he could be dangerous. Particularly if the forecast rain comes, as his best results have all come on good to soft, or soft ground. Won at Doncaster last year on good to soft from a rating of 76, meaning today’s 74 is well within reach.

Tip 3 - 4:30 Newton Abbott - Centara
Centara was in fine form last year when winning five of his nice starts under rules. Something clearly went wrong on his last run of the year as he required wind surgery and wasn’t seen for six months. He looked like he had missed the track as he was far too keen on his return and ruined any chance he had of winning. If he settles today he looks very dangerous running off his 12lb lower hurdles mark. A rating so generous he actually won three chases last year off higher.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
