Tip 1 - 1:15 Leopardstown - Kazansky
Willie Mullins looks to have a strong hand here, with Doctor Steinberg expected to go off a short-priced favourite. With bottomless conditions expected, it might be worth siding with Kazansky. He won a Limerick Grade 2 over this sort of trip in similarly dreadful underfoot conditions on Boxing Day, marking himself as one to keep an eye on for the Albert Bartlett. There’s nothing sexy about him, but he has the right sort of profile for a race like this.

Tip 2 - 2:25 Leopardstown - Staffordshire Knot
The top weight by some distance today, Staffordshire Knot has relished carrying that sort of rating recently with a very comfortable win at Clonmel last month, which came just a few days after his impressive Pertemps Qualifier victory over this distance. Carl Millar was on board for both those victories and goes again today, claiming 5lb which could be crucial in such a jam-packed race.

Tip 3 - 3:07 Kempton - Scarface
Pulled up in two of last three runs, Scarface doesn’t necessarily inspire confidence. However, there is clearly ability there having won a Grade 3 novices’ chase in 2024 and finishing decent seconds twice in November and December in Class 2s. The drop back to a Class 3 and the return to blinkers could do just the trick for a yard in flying form. Joe Tizzard has had four winners and three places from his last nine to post.

Tip 4 - 3:30 Leopardstown - Gaelic Warrior
Gaelic Warrior is a horse on the upgrade, and might just move past Galopin Des Champs coming the other way. His last four performances have been top class, and he probably would have won the King George if he hadn’t been stuck in a bit of a pocket. Townend jumps ship to Galopin Des Champs but that’s probably out of loyalty. He was well below his usual level here last time out and it wouldn’t be a surprise if three years at the top table is finally taking its toll.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
