Tip 1 - 2:30 Ascot - Carry The Flag

Carry The Flag came on leaps and bounds for his debut run, winning at short odds next time out. He finished runner up last time out but that was to the impressive Coventry winner Great Barrier Reef. He will be unlucky to bump into another horse that good in this as well, with the fact he is dropping back to five furlongs a bonus as he looked like he doesn’t quite have the stamina to see out six.

Tip 2 - 3:05 Ascot - Ethical Diamond

Ethical Diamond was a surprise star of both flat and hurdles last year, winning at Punchestown and finishing a respectable fourth in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham before winning the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot. He followed that up with victory in the Ebor Handicap and in the Breeders’ Cup Turf to complete a famous hat trick. His one effort this year didn’t go to plan but that clearly wasn’t indicative of his actual abilities and he looks much better than his price suggests.

Tip 3 - 3:40 Ascot - Satono Reve

Last season’s close second, Satono Reve, returns to try go one better. He came up short against a French superstar that day and now has an Australian one to worry about. His recent strike rate is a little concerning, but his confirmed liking for Ascot as well as the booking of Ryan Moore are huge positives. Well clear of the third last year, he was unlucky to bump into one and he may be able to get compensation here from a high draw.

Tip 4 - 4:20 Ascot - The Prettiest Star

Lightly raced with just three career runs under her belt and only run in Fillies races so far, but has given the impression there is plenty still to come. High quality second in Group 2 on second start last year and then reappeared from 219 days out to finish a fine fourth in the 1,000 Guineas. Drop in trip back to seven furlongs is sure to be a positive and could take advantage of the three-pound weight allowance she holds over many of the protagonists.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
