Tip 1 - 2:55 York - Mirsky
Mirsky scored a big win in the Thirsk Hunt Cup 12 days ago, and a rise of just three pounds seems both more than fair and manageable. Won valuable Class 2s at Thirsk and Epsom last year, and he should be very competitive still from a mark of 96. Has started the season in fine form and can continue that in this big field from a strong rail draw.

Tip 2 - 3:08 Perth - Bold Light
Dropping into a Class 4 for the first time since going handicapping, Bold Light looks to have a huge chance despite carrying top weight. His last win came in a Class 2 at Kelso last March off a mark of 123. Now off 116 with a first-time tongue tie expected to have a positive effect, he’s certainly weighted to go close. Alan Doyle, who’s been on board for two of Bold Light’s career wins, takes three pounds off to lighten some of the welter burden.

Tip 3 - 4.05 York – Morshdi
One of the few in this race in experience at this grade and the only one with a Listed victory, Morshdi comes into this one after an impressive win at Newmarket last month when he defied 14/1 odds to see off the favourite. That was only his third career race and took him to two wins and a second after victory in a Class 2 Maiden at York last year. He may find his ceiling at some point but there’s nothing to suggest it’ll be soon.

Tip 4 - 4:55 Perth - Travelling Soldier
Something was clearly amiss with Travelling Soldier last time out and probably explains why he has been off the track for so long. But he returns with the cheekpieces that have worked previously on again and had a great chance if he is ready for this. The favourite, Sir Carnegie, ran yesterday and it would be a big ask for him to follow up again today.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
