Fine Thing is progressing well for the Skelton yard since moving over from points. He ran well in his only go in a bumper but going back over an obstacle is where he has found his feet. He is two from two and should be able to complete the hattrick, even having to concede the 5lb as he has shown a level of form well above everything else so far on the track.

Tip 2 - 3:32 Newbury - Flying Pirate

This looks like a case of the odds-on favourite and the other nine runners. However, as impressive as the favourite was on debut, there’s reason to believe he will be pushed mightily close. Flying Pirate has two wins from three and cantered home by eight lengths last time out. Step up to a mile could bring further improvement, just like the first-time cheekpieces did last time. Tip 3 - 3:40 Ayr - Eye Of Dubai

Having been third in the Silver Cup last year off a mark of 87 before a Ripon win off that same mark three weeks later, Eye Of Dubai has slipped to a handy-looking mark. He’s been dreadfully out of form this season, but hasn’t often had his preferred soft ground. He should get that today, and with the hope that first-time blinkers could spark a revival, he may be able to take advantage of a handicap rating that’s five pounds below his last winning one.

Tip 4 - 3:47 Newton Abbot - Royal Time

Royal Time has just one win under his belt, which came back in December 2024, and his only other finishes of note over the last three years were a second and a third. However, a change in yard in July seems to have got him right back where he wants to be with an impressive third a couple of weeks ago when 18/1. If he can put in a similar performance today against a weaker field today then he should be right up there again.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
