Tip 1 - 2:05 Haydock - Princess Lottie

Princess Lottie’s two career starts have each seen her run to a fairly modest level on paper. Each run came at Newmarket in pretty strong races, as you’d expect for that track. Each time, she didn’t have the gears to be a major threat, found herself outpaced and stayed on late. The form of her second start, when an eyecatching fourth, has been boosted with the third and fifth winning since. Today’s step up in trip and easier ground conditions should help and she looks to have a big chance.

Tip 2 - 3:15 Haydock - Lord Bertie

This pick comes with risks attached, but he does look worth the risk. Those risks being that he is on a seven-race losing streak where the highest he has finished in that time is sixth. Last time out, he failed to beat another horse. However, his lowly mark of 76 is very appealing combined with very soft ground that seems to get the best out of him. Four career wins, with the last three on soft ground and also finished a fine second on heavy ground from top weight over a furlong further here a couple of years back. Two handicap wins have come from marks of 83 and 89.

Tip 3 - 3:25 Bangor-on-Dee - Secret Trix

An experienced hurdler who’s been bang in form this year after wind surgery, Secret Trix is looking for his first win in over two years and today could be the day. He’s finished top-three in his last five runs, all over 2m7f or 3m, and is sure to be there or thereabouts again today. His rating remains at 120 but he’s won at higher plus Tom Hutsby takes 10lbs off, which looks very useful in this company.

Tip 4 - 4:30 Worcester - Paper Mill

Paper Mill has been largely consistent in his starts under rules since switching stables, in his last race he was only beaten a couple of lengths by a horse now rated 8lb higher. He’s only had six spins over fences in his career so there could actually be more to come from this ten year old chaser. His pointing exploits show he can jump well and he should be right there at the finish, it’s just a question of whether he can find a finishing kick.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
