Tip 1 - 1:45 Newmarket - Addison Grey
Any excuse to oppose an odds-on chance, and in this case with good reason. Double Rush certainly looked in good order when cantering to a win on seasonal reappearance and stable debut. But questions to answer on such fast ground lead us to Addison Grey. Very unfortunate not to win on seasonal debut. Pretty unexposed for a four-year-old and has won on good to firm the last twice, including here in August last year on the July course. Should give the favourite a decent run.

Tip 2 - 2:20 Newmarket - Botanical
Botanical’s first run of the year was an impressive fourth of 21 at Doncaster in March and that result alone makes for better reading than almost anything he accomplished in 2025. The six-year-old goes off at the same mark again today and has previously won at both this distance and grade, so looks in good stead to add another victory to his CV - almost two years after the last.

Tip 3 - 3:45 Punchestown - Montregard
It’s interesting that connections have opted to send Montregard here instead of the bet365 Gold Cup last week. He was well-fancied for that and only pulled out at the last minute due to the ground, despite conditions being similar to what he’s thrived on in the past. He’s related to Protektorat, so is bred to be high-class, and has won three of his five starts this season. He looks set to continue on his upward trajectory.

Tip 4 - 4:55 Punchestown - Saratoga
Considering how impressive he was in the Martin Pipe it is a surprise Saratoga isn’t shorter here. Triumph Hurdle winner Apolon De Charnie heads the betting but the form of that race doesn’t look up to much, with the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th all beaten next time out at Aintree. The Martin Pipe might have been the better Cheltenham race, and if it is, Saratoga should take this.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
