Tip 1 - 2:30 Uttoxeter - Martymill

The penny finally dropped for Martymill last time out, putting away a fancied Mullins horse by 11 lengths in very impressive style. This is his first go over hurdles so he will need to enjoy leaving the ground, but that bumper run is head and shoulders above anything his opponents have achieved on the track up to now.

Tip 2 - 2:40 Punchestown - Zaraahmando

Zaraahmando certainly wouldn’t be winning out of turn, having had a solid summer without getting his head in front. Four runs from June to July resulted in four places, before another strong showing when fourth in a big field at Navan a couple of weeks ago. He’s clearly handicapped about right, but looks sure to give his running, with both trip and ground to suit.

Tip 3 - 3:30 Uttoxeter - Glance Of Glory

Glance Of Glory hasn’t been seen for almost six months since a disastrous run at Ascot that was immediately followed by wind surgery, but going down to his seemingly preferred distance makes him hold plenty of appeal. He won twice over this distance last autumn, including once at this grade, with today’s jockey Sean Bowen on both victories. The six-year-old has been tried over longer distances but to no avail and after previously winning at just 2lbs lower than today, his mark of 105 seems manageable.

Tip 4 - 4:00 Uttoxeter - Light N Strike

This choice comes with stamina questions that at 10 years old, Light N Strike may not be able to answer. Stays this distance without ever having won further than 2m5f. But chance is taken on a horse with a much better track record than any other in this race back under Emma Lavelle, under whom he had five chase wins at marks between 116-135. Today’s mark of 125 after disappointing with Mickey Bowen’s yard makes him really appealing back as low as Class 3 for the first time since March last year.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
