Arsene Wenger appears to be content with his current role with FIFA for whom he oversees the global development of football, but the 70-year-old is never far away from the speculation each time a major job comes up in Europe.

The Frenchman has released a new autobiography in which he admits to having turned down offers from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Paris St-Germain, France, England and Manchester United during the course of his managerial career.

His stock may have fallen somewhat since he’s gone two years without being in the management business, but since Wenger openly states that he still watches and analyses top level football every day he would no doubt be well placed for a return should an appealing opportunity arise.

After spending 22 years at Arsenal, it is perhaps understandable that Premier League clubs have the biggest prices when it comes to the betting on Wenger’s next club markets, with Betfair going 33/1 apiece that he is either the next manager of Leicester or Manchester United.

It’s an even bigger price for him to be the next manager of Newcastle (66/1) while Southampton can pretty much forget about him replacing Ralph Hasenhüttl, with Betfair going 80/1 that Wenger is the next Saints boss.

Wenger Return a Long Shot

Beyond the Premier League the prices remain pretty long, a sign perhaps that Betfair traders are not expecting Wenger back in management anytime soon.

The Gunners great was linked with Paris Saint-Germain throughout the latter years of his Arsenal reign, but the odds on him replacing Thomas Tuchel, who got the Ligue 1 champions into the Champions League final last season, are quite slim at 25/1.

With current European champions Bayern Munich needing no change at the top any time soon, that leaves La Liga as the most likely league for Wenger should he decide to return to the game.

Having turned down Real Madrid twice in the past, the Bernabeu club might hesitate to offer him the role for a third time should Zinedine Zidane vacate the managerial position anytime soon – it’s 12/1 for him to replace his compatriot at the Spanish champions.

Somewhat surprisingly, that leaves Valencia as the most likely club to appoint Arsene Wenger as their next manager, though the La Liga side only appointed former Watford boss Javi Gracia in the summer.

It’s 7/1 for Wenger to be Gracia’s replacement, but since the former is famed for favouring stability – he spent seven years at Monaco and 22 at Arsenal – a stint at the Mestalla where managers come and go season-on-season may not be of much appeal to him.
