The 2014/15 Premier League season kicks off with Manchester United hosting Swansea and Burnley up against Chelsea
Last season’s title race was epic, with the lead constantly changing hands and Manchester City pipping Liverpool and Chelsea in the final reckoning.
That trio of teams will be joined by Manchester United and Arsenal when it comes to battling it out for the Premier League crown, while there are probably a dozen teams who can be sucked into a relegation scrap at the foot of the table.
The 2014/15 season starts on Saturday 16 August, with a new-look Red Devils formation but a largely old-school line-up as Louis van Gaal puts his trust in the players who flopped en route to finishing seventh in the table last term.
United kick things off at home to a Swansea team who are now managed permanently by Garry Monk and they will out to play the role of party poopers at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, there is a London derby on Saturday evening when Crystal Palace make the relatively short trip to the Emirates Stadium in a bid to stop Arsenal from strutting their stuff, with Tony Pulis having performed minor miracles at Selhurst Park last term.
Liverpool have spent a good part of the summer looting Southampton and it’s the Saints who are the first visitors to Anfield, with Ronald Koeman having a re-building job on his hands since taking charge.
Champions Manchester City will look for a fast start when they travel to St James’ Park to face a Newcastle side who blew hot and cold last term, although Alan Pardew has freshened things up somewhat.
Finally, the Monday night match sees Burnley tackle Chelsea and it could be a baptism of fire for the Clarets who will have a full house cheering them on against Jose Mourinho’s team.
