This summer, Canada will co-host the soccer World Cup for the first time ever. It’s a hugely significant sporting event as a result. BC Place in Vancouver and BMO Field in Toronto will play host to a number of games during this summer’s tournament.

All three of Canada’s Group B matches will be held on home soil, with the country also hosting a number of other fixtures including Germany vs Ivory Coast. There will be additional knockout matches staged by Canada, and this could be a breakthrough moment for betting sites Canada customers can sign up with.

We’re anticipating online football betting to be at an all-time high among Canadian bettors. There will be lots of interest in wagering on the various games involving the Canucks.

Canada World Cup Odds

You can dare to dream and back Canada at 151.00 to win the 2026 World Cup at sports betting bonus sites. However, the Canucks have only featured in two tournaments before and bombed out at the group stage in 1986 and 2022.

The aim will be to try to qualify for the round-of-32 stage, and the best World Cup betting sites think this is a realistic outcome. Jesse Marsch’s side are around the 1.22 mark to go through, which suggests they have a strong chance of lining up in the bracket.

As far as the Group B winner market is concerned, Canada are second favorites. Although Switzerland are odds-on, Les Rouges are priced marginally shorter than Bosnia and Herzegovina in the betting. Qatar are regarded as the big underdogs considering they’re as big as 34.00 to top the section.

There are also odds for Canada to reach the quarter-final stage. Their odds of 2.75 to make the last eight means an implied probability of 36.4% that they find themselves firmly at the business end of the tournament.

Canada are odds-on favorites to win their tournament opener against Bosnia. They will hope to use home advantage to good effect, and they are even more fancied to topple Qatar in their second game. They will almost certainly be the outsiders for their final group showdown against the Swiss.

Canada World Cup Betting Guide - What Can Bettors Expect?

Soccer has never been one of the biggest betting sports in Canada - until now. The World Cup being co-hosted in this country will bring a large captive audience who will cheer on the Canucks.

We’re close to the big kick-off and crypto sportsbooks and more traditional sites are readying themselves for a deluge of wagers from Canadian bettors. This is especially as Alberta has created a path to regulated online sports betting. It’s another territory that is opening its doors and enabling residents of a legal age to bet.

All sportsbooks that are operating across Canada will be aiming to appeal to customers. This may include generous welcome bonuses along with odds boosts for the big games. Look out for a series of other promotions where free bets and extra bonuses can be landed. There will also be the chance to bet in-play on every game being staged across the tournament.

These bonuses won’t be available in Ontario and the newly regulated Alberta as regulations prevent sites from advertising such offers as part of its responsible gambling initiatives.

How Big Is The Betting Handle Expected To Be?

The World Cup co-hosting status is expected to drive Canadian sports betting to unprecedented levels this summer. Global World Cup 2026 betting turnover is projected to exceed the CAD $52.64 billion wagered on Qatar 2022, according to Stats Perform. Canada's involvement as a host nation will almost certainly generate a significant share of domestic interest in that figure.

The scale of the Canadian market is best illustrated by what is already happening in Ontario. Ontario's regulated online gambling market posted a record CAD $98.3 billion in total wagers in 2025, a 26% increase year over year, according to iGaming Ontario. With Canada playing all three group-stage matches on home soil, those figures could be pushed considerably higher during the tournament window.

The appetite among Canadian fans for betting on their own team is well established. With home advantage and a genuine shot at the knockout stage this time around, that patriotic enthusiasm is likely to translate into far greater wagering volumes in 2026.

What Does The Alberta Launch Mean For The Market?

Alberta's move to a regulated online betting market represents the most significant development in Canadian gambling since Ontario opened its doors in 2022. Alberta will officially launch its regulated online gambling market on July 13, 2026, making it the second Canadian province after Ontario to open its iGaming market to private operators.

The timing is significant in the context of the World Cup. The registration deadline for operators falls on July 13 after the World Cup has already reached the quarter-final stage. This means Alberta betting site visitors will not have access to a fully regulated private market for the group stage or the round of 32. That means it is likely much of the business in Alberta will come from offshore sites that remain legal until the July 13 cut off.

Once the market does open, the long-term potential is substantial. Alberta's regulated market will operate similarly to Ontario's model, which authorises private-sector operators to conduct legal online sports betting and casino gambling within the province.

At the time of writing, a few Alberta brands have opened for pre-registration, and it has been confirmed that big Alberta betting apps will include BetMGM, bet365 and DraftKings. Ontario's market has grown significantly since its 2022. Alberta's population of around five million is smaller than Ontario's 16 million, but similarities in betting behaviour between the two provinces and the pent-up demand from years of grey market activity could fuel rapid early growth.

For Canadian bettors in Alberta this summer, the practical reality is that regulated options arrive just as the tournament reaches its climax.

Canada’s Past World Cup Performance

Canada’s first World Cup appearance was in 1986, where they lost all three group games. After a 36-year hiatus, they lined up in 2022 and finished bottom of a tricky section with no points. However, there’s optimism that things can be different this summer. The Maple Leafs held Colombia and Ecuador to draws last fall, and they’re five matches unbeaten at the time of writing.

Canada Key Players

Alphonso Davies is the one world-class player in the Canada team, with the captain having been on the Bayern Munich books since 2019. He’s not featured a huge amount for his club this term and is aiming to make a speedy recovery from injury. A hamstring issue means the 25-year-old faces a race against time.

There are goals in the squad thanks to the presence of Cyle Larin and Jonathan David. The former has shone for Southampton and has 30 goals in a Canada shirt. Juventus player David averages more than a goal every two matches. However, it’s not been a vintage campaign for the Turin club.

Tajon Buchanan has broken through for Villarreal this term to become a regular feature in midfield. He will clearly be a key figure for the co-hosts in their aim to reach the knockout stage of the competition.

Canada World Cup Betting Guide FAQs

Is sports betting legal in Canada?

Sports betting is legal across Canada, but the rules vary significantly by province. Ontario is the only province with a fully open market where private operators compete under a regulated framework. Elsewhere, betting runs through government-controlled lottery platforms such as Proline+ and PlayNow and offshore sites.
