They woke up the echoes last weekend in Notre Dame, where the Fighting Irish defeated a top-ranked opponent for the first time in 27 years. But beating a Clemson team without starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence didn’t really impress oddsmakers: Notre Dame’s national championship futures odds remain a distant +2000, well below Alabama (+125) and the Tigers (+350).

Notre Dame will almost certainly face Clemson again in the ACC title game. Saturday, though, brings a spunky Boston College team that gave the Tigers everything they could handle three weeks ago. And the last time the Irish knocked off a top-ranked team, Florida State in 1993, they lost the next week — to Boston College. Should fans of college football betting bet on history repeating itself?

Notre Dame vs Boston College Spread Pick

Although the Irish covered as 5-point underdogs against Clemson by winning outright, Notre Dame has hardly been a given this season against the spread. The Clemson game marked just Notre Dame’s second cover in its last six outings.

Boston College has been just as inconsistent, covering as a 26-point underdog at Clemson one week, struggling past Syracuse as a 14-point favorite the next. Boston College has a solid quarterback in Notre Dame transfer Phil Jerkovic, but those Irish lines looked absolutely dominant against Clemson and Brian Kelly’s team is good enough to cover a spread below two touchdowns.

Also worth noting: Notre Dame has won seven straight against BC, including 40-7 last season. Bet on Notre Dame with PointsBet.

Notre Dame vs Boston College Moneyline Pick

Notre Dame slipped past some lower-tier opponents earlier this season, when the program was in the midst of coronavirus outbreaks that interrupted practice. Since getting through that, it’s looked like an elite program by hammering Pittsburgh, beating up on Georgia Tech and upsetting Clemson.

BC’s performance in Death Valley masked what has otherwise been a terribly up-and-down season, with chose shaves against bad teams Syracuse and Texas State, and a loss to disappointing Virginia Tech.

Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book is 27-3 as a starter, the Irish have a stable of good running backs, and that pass rush is capable of giving Jerkovic fits even if a bend-don’t-break defense has a bad habit of giving up too many yards. Back the Irish at BetMGM.

Notre Dame vs Boston College Totals Betting

Thanks in part to overtime, Notre Dame against Clemson went over the total for the third time in the last five weeks. Two of those three overs were against totals higher that what the Irish face this week, including 53.5 in a regulation victory over Florida State.

Boston College’s low-scoring slog against a funky Syracuse defense was an aberration. The Eagles had gone over the total in three of their previous four games, two of those featuring totals higher than what they’ll see Saturday. With Jerkovic at the helm, Boston College is capable of putting up some points, especially against a Notre Dame secondary that can run a little hot and cold.

The problem is that the Irish, with Book leading a standout cast of backs and tight ends, are capable of putting up more. Grab the best odds on the Over with DraftKings.
