The 2020 Pittsburgh Pirates went 19-41. That was by far the worst record in the majors. Their 69-93 mark in 2019 was second-worst in the National League. They haven’t had a winning record in five seasons.

However, the Pirates aren’t totally void of talent, or expectations. Every team is 0-0 on April 1. Here are their latest MLB futures as well as some top bets for the Pirates’ 2021 MLB season.

Pirates World Series Odds (+25000, DraftKings)

No team has higher MLB odds to win it all than the Pirates at +25000, and for good reason. They were the worst team in baseball in 2020 and didn’t add much in the off-season to alter national expectations.

The great thing about sports is, anything can happen. If the Pirates were to win the World Series, it wouldn’t even be the biggest upset of the last five years. That honor goes to Leicester City, which won the 2016 English Premier League title – at +50000.

Even in baseball, nothing is impossible. Two seasons ago, the Nationals were as high as +6200 mid-season in MLB betting. But Washington got hot at the right time, snuck into the playoffs, and the rest is history.

Pittsburgh will have to get past the likes of the Cardinals and Cubs in the NL Central, the Dodgers and Braves in the National League and whoever comes out of the AL. But stranger things have happened. Feel inspired yet? Find great World Series winner odds for the Pirates at DraftKings .

Pirates Odds To Win The NL (+12500, bet365)

The Dodgers are +170 to represent the National League in the World Series. The Padres (+425) are next on the board, with the Braves and Mets (+525) not far behind.

Looking for the Pirates? Keep scrolling. All the way down.

Pittsburgh has not only the highest odds to win the National League of any team, its odds are nearly twice as high as any other team at +12500. The Rockies, who traded away Nolan Arenado in the off-season, are posted at +6600. No other team is above +5000.

We’ve already played the Leicester City card for the World Series. If one is willing to bet on the Pirates to win the Fall Classic, a similar wager on the pennant is a good hedge. Secure the best odds for the NL pennant at bet365 .

Pirates Odds To Win The NL Central (+7000, FOX Bet)

Few divisions can boast the balance of the National League Central. The Cardinals (+100), Reds (+333), Brewers (+375) and Cubs (+425) begin the season in a tight pack. The Pirates are a total afterthought at +7000.

Pittsburgh has individual talent – more on that below – but team success is going to take career years from a lot of angles. When it comes to backing the Pirates, don’t wager the mortgage. For a little fun backing, find great odds for the Pirates at FOX Bet.

3 Great Pirates Prop Bets To Back

NL Rookie of the Year – Ke’Bryan Hayes (+425, FOX Bet)

The highly touted Hayes got his first taste of MLB hitting in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. He hit .376 with a strong 1.124 OPS. Hayes finished sixth in the NL ROY voting, despite playing roughly half the games as the other contenders.

He’s back for 2021, and he still qualifies for ROY honors. He’s the favorite to win the award and is easily the top contender among hitters. Five of the last six ROYs were position players, the lone exception a reliever. Take Hayes to win NL ROY at FOX Bet.

MLB Saves Leader – Richard Rodriguez (+2000, DraftKings)

Rodriguez has never been a closer in the majors, but he has earned the opportunity. In two of his three MLB seasons, Rodriguez has finished with an ERA of 2.70 or lower, and with more strikeouts than innings or hits. Last season he had 34 strikeouts and a scant five walks in 23.1 innings.

He'll get the ball in the ninth inning. The Pirates probably won’t be leading in the ninth as often as most teams, but they played the third-most one-run games in 2021. They play a lot of close games, and if Rodriguez keeps up his progression, he should finish most Pirates wins on the hill. Take Rodriguez to lead MLB in saves at DraftKings .

Total Wins – Over 58.5 (+105, Unibet)

To win just 59 games in a 162-game season requires a win percentage of .364. But even that would be an uptick from last year’s awful 19-41 (.317) campaign.

Prior to last year, Pittsburgh – annually an NL afterthought – had at least finished .426 or higher for nine straight years. If young pitchers like Mitch Keller and Steven Brault progress and the top of the order can get on base, the Pirates can eke out enough W’s to hit 60. Take the Over on wins at Unibet.
