ACC 1st-Round Draft Picks: Do You Bet Over Or Under In Prop?

The Atlantic Coast Conference had just one team in the top 20 of the final College Football Playoff rankings. Subsequently, the expectations to have a large number of players selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft are tempered.

PointsBet has released odds putting the Over/Under on total number of first-round picks from the ACC Conference at 3.5 players. Since being posted, the NFL betting line has skewed big-time toward the Under.

ACC First-Round Locks

ACC 1st-Round Draft Picks: Do You Bet Over Or Under In Prop? 1
Louisville offensive tackle Mekhi Becton is unlikely to fall past the No. 15 pick.

As many as four players from the ACC could go in the first round. But just two are locks.

Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons is the top player at his position. He’s a top-10 prospect, and is unlikely to fall past the Carolina Panthers at No. 7.

Mammoth offensive lineman Mekhi Becton is one of the top tackles in the field. Where he ends up is anyone’s guess — some teams really like him, others might believe his 6-7, 370-pound frame might not fit their style. Regardless, he’s going in the first round, probably the top 15.

Additional First-Rounders Scarce

The ACC has a few others who could be first-round material, but only one is more likely to do so.

That’s Clemson cornerback A.J. Terrell, one of the top CBs in the field but no lock to go early. He got it done for the Tigers, but was gashed by LSU in the national title game and his top-heavy frame worries some scouts. He’ll go early and is projected to be an eventual starter, but teams might not be inclined to use a first-round pick on him. Those that are considering him are mostly picking in the No. 25-32 range.

Clemson WR Tee Higgins has seen his stock drop in a deep WR field — not because of anything he’s done, but because other wideouts have leaped into first-round consideration. Higgins’ general lack of physicality raises questions about his separation potential at the pro level.

Conclusion

The ACC will absolutely have at least two first-round picks in the NFL Draft. But that doesn’t help those who want to take the Over in this NFL futures betting prop with that nice underdog payout.

The problem is, of the other two players who could get taken in the top 32, it’s likely none of them are being considered in the top 20, perhaps even top 25. Concerns about Terrell and the depth at the WR position raise questions that directly impact this futures bet.

A lot of things need to fall in place for the ACC to get four first-rounders — too many things. Take the Under on ACC first-round picks.
