Belmont Stakes Odds, Betting Analysis, Odds & 3 Horses To Back

The 152nd Belmont Stakes will be one of the most unique in its storied history, run as the first leg of the Triple Crown, at a distance three furlongs shorter than usual, and without a live audience.

A field of 10 will compete in Saturday’s race at Belmont Park. While the race order may be a bit convoluted this year and conducted with less fanfare, a Triple Crown opportunity is still at stake and starts here, something fans of horse racing betting have been waiting more than two months for.

Belmont Stakes 2020 Analysis

It’s difficult to make a case against Tiz the Law, who towers over the field on paper. The New York-bred has won two Grade I races (Florida Derby, Champagne); the rest of the field has combined to win zero. Tiz the Law has four wins in five career races, the only blemish a close third on a sloppy track last November.

With a post that suits his stalking style, Tiz the Law may just need a clean trip to win the first leg of this revamped Triple Crown. The only questions are recency and short odds. Tiz the Law hasn’t run since March 28, but veteran trainer Barclay Tagg has more than 1,500 career wins, including the 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness with Funny Cide. The 6-5 morning-line odds are an overlay - Tiz the Law will likely go off less than that.

RELATED: How Class & Speed Figure Into Horse Racing Handicapping

Pneumatic is a lightly-raced colt with two victories in three career starts and has significant potential. His lone defeat on May 23 in the Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs may be his most impressive race, finishing third, less than two lengths behind Maxfield (now injured), who would be vying for Belmont favoritism if entered in this race. Pneumatic has the speed figures to be competitive and appears to have plenty of upside.

Longshot Max Player is also lightly raced with two victories in three career races and faces a class test here. When last seen, Max Player rallied past the field to win the Withers Stakes at Aqueduct on Feb. 1. That’s a long layoff to overcome, but New York-based trainer Linda Rice is more than capable.

Max Player will offer double-digit odds and could be a player to spice up your exotic wagers.
