NFL 2026 Miles Traveled - All Teams Ranked: 49ers Lead Way In Record-Breaking Season
The NFL schedule drops Thursday night. Our NFL Teams 2026 Miles Traveled analysis also shows that the NFL is headed for a record season when it comes to overall miles traveled, thanks to nine international games. The San Francisco 49ers will set an NFL record for miles traveled by a league franchise and the league will break the mileage record it set last season.
The 32 NFL teams travel 628,873 miles this season. That equals 25.2 trips around the circumference of the Earth, or 2.63 times the distance to the Moon. Six teams will travel more than the distance around the earth the equator - 24,901 miles. They are the San Francisco 49ers, LA Rams, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins.
The 49ers will cover 38,105 miles thanks to a NFL Week 1 affair against the Rams in Melbourne, Australia, and a "home game" in Mexico City. The Australia game takes place on September 10 in the United States and will be streamed on Netflix starting at 8:35 p.m. ET. Melbourne will be 17 hours ahead of U.S. Pacific Standard Time when that game kicks off September 11th Down Under at 10:30 a.m. local time.
In all, the 58 time zones crossed by the Niners will also crush the record of 42, set by the LA Chargers last year. The Rams cover 34,847 miles as the No. 2 most-traveled team this year, and pass through 54 time zones. Their trip to Australia of 15,742 miles barely edges the 15,738-mile trip of the 49ers.
The Carolina Panthers travel the fewest miles in the league (8,740) and make just 6 times zone changes. The Panthers don't go west of Minneapolis, or east of Philadelphia.
The difference between the Panthers and 49ers is staggering. San Francisco travels 4.4x more miles than Carolina.

NFL Sets Travel Record Thanks To 9 International Games
Our NFL Teams' 2026 Miles Traveled number of 628,873 miles breaks the mark of 625,947 set last season.. The nine international games account for 96,396 miles of this season's league total, or 15.5% of every mile traveled this season.
Biggest jumps from the international trips:
- Texans had the largest single addition — London Wembley vs Jacksonville adds 9,683 miles to their total against a road game against the Jaguars in Duval County.
- Bengals & Colts were the biggest surprise movers — both were bottom-5 teams who now crack the top 25 purely because of one international assignment
- Vikings had the smallest jump (+445 mi) because Mexico City, unlike Europe, involves no time zone change from Minnesota

Mexico City 'Home Team' Designation Puts 49ers Over Top
The NFL may well set up San Francisco's schedule to eat into some of its trips, however, this is where things stand pre-schedule release.
The game against the Rams - with LA designated as the "home" team in Australia - adds 15,738 linear miles round trip to the 49ers' ledger. And the 49ers game at Mexico City adds another 3,854 miles round-trip to what would normally be a home game. The trip to Australia covers a whopping 34 time zones round-trip.

Cincinnati Bengals Miles Traveled
