Trump's 2024 Ballot Challenges In Key States

Michigan +250

Buzz: Free Speech for People sued to have Trump’s name removed from the ballot there but lost an appeals court ruling. That case has been appealed and would likely end up in the Michigan State Supreme Court. That court has a 4-3 Democrat-leaning majority. Trump carried Michigan in 2016 but lost the state in 2020. Michigan is a crucial swing state and would almost guarantee Trump the White House if he were to win it again in 2024. 

New York +300

Buzz: A group of state senators wrote a letter to the state Board of Elections earlier this month asking that Trump’s name be prevented from appearing on the state’s primary and general election ballots. New York officials have been openly hostile toward Trump. He faces a civil fraud case in Manhattan brought by the state Attorney General Letitia James. 

Wisconsin +400

Buzz: Another of several states in a suit was filed to keep Trump off the ballot. No ruling has been made in the lower court. A bitter election in August titled the Wisconsin Supreme Court ideologically to the left, even though the court is technically non-partisan. Wisconsin is a near must-win state for any GOP candidate to win the White House. This was another state won by Trump in 2016 but lost in 2020.

That ruling does not apply to the general election. In its ruling in the primary case, the court said the climes are “ripe” but ruled against FSP that it would be an “error” to keep Trump’s name off the ballot 

Oregon +2000

Buzz: Free Speech for People asked the Secretary of State to remove Trump’s name from the ballot earlier in this fall but the Secretary of State said she lacked the authority to do so. The group filed a lawsuit last week with the Oregon Supreme Court similar to the one it has filed elsewhere seeking to prevent it from appearing on that state’s ballot. All seven justices on the Oregon Supreme Court were appointed by former Gov. Kate Brown, a Democrat.
