After a season of promise in 2022, the New York Giants dropped 3.5 games in the standings in 2023, was outscored by 141 points (compared to -6 the year prior) and ranked in the bottom-six in every major offensive and defensive category.

But 2024 offers a fresh start. Daniel Jones is back at QB after injury ended his season abruptly. The Giants own a high pick at the NFL Draft that should add an immediate playmaker.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has used his resources of NFL contacts developed over 20 years covering the league and the NFL Draft to create his hypothetical NFL futures oddson who gets selected sixth by the New York Giants in the 2024 NFL Draft.

2024 New York Giants NFL Draft Prospects

Daniel Jones didn’t make a great impression in his first season with a nine-figure contract in tow. He managed just six games, through just two passing TDs, and the Giants went 1-5 with him under center. He’s back for next season, for better or for worse.

Jones wasn’t the only problem. The offense ranked 30th in scoring with him or anyone else at QB, and now Saquon Barkley is gone, signing with the rival Eagles in the off-season. The defense ranked 26th in points allowed. They did acquire star Edge rusher Brian Burns from the Panthers, and former Bills and Texans RB Drew Singletary takes over for Barkley.

The Giants have been rumored to be a candidate to trade up and find a new QB, whether it’s Drake Maye of North Carolina or Jayden Daniels of LSU. It’s driven down the odds for The Field/Trade Up.

If they don’t move up, finding a reliable pass-catcher for Jones has to be a priority. Darius Slayton was the team’s leading receiver, and he managed four TDs and 45.3 yards per game. While Marvin Harrison Jr. won’t be around. Malik Nabers of LSU would be the remarkable second option. The 6-foot, 200-pounder has been compared to Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, former Tigers themselves. The Giants sorely lack someone of that playmaking ability.

If it’s not wideout or trade-up/QB for New York, top offensive tackle Joe Alt or interior lineman Taliese Fuaga of Oregon St. would be immediate plug-and-play additions on a line that ranked third-worst in the NFL last season. Quarterback isn't out of the question. Dumping Daniel Jones and his massive contract might prove tricky, but securing the next-in-line, if they believe it's J.J. McCarthy of Michigan, is an option.

New York could also trade down and stockpile more picks for a QB-hungry team looking to move up and get McCarthy. In fact, as draft day looms, "Trade" is neck-and-neck with Nabers as the favorite.
