New York Giants At LA Chargers Picks & Betting Predictions

Eytan Shander | 9 mins

We see numerous variables factoring into every matchup each week in the NFL, but none is more important than the quarterback. The Giants are most likely down to their third-string QB and sportsbooks have taken notice. The Chargers are on the rise and are laying the second-highest amount of points across all NFL spreads in Week 14.
L.A. is healthy and seeing a bounce back from early struggles with Justin Herbert. Their defense is picking up, especially against the run. The biggest factor in this game is how banged up the Giants are in multiple key positions.
Anyone playing this game should note how many starters the Giants are down at the QB, RB, and WR position. Mike Glennon took over for Daniel Jones in Week 13, and now Glennon may sit for Jake Fromm.
Meanwhile, the Chargers come off a convincing win over the Bengals, but have been inconsistent over their last five games. Another factor to note whenever applying injuries with NFL betting is how serious an injury is. Barkley may be playing but he doesn’t look anywhere near healthy. The Giants OL is also one of the worst units across the league.
Take a look at Chargers vs. Giants odds, injury report, betting lines and more.
Giants vs Chargers Key Matchups
Chargers Run D vs Anyone with the Football: Yes, the Chargers run defense has slightly improved but they are still 31st in the league. The Giants have a horrible run game and a brutal OL, but anything’s possible when both sides are so bad at what they do.
Any Giants WR vs Chargers Secondary: Even if Daniel Jones was healthy this game would be an uphill battle, and then some. Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, and Sterling Shepard are all dealing with injury, and could all miss the game.
Justin Herbert vs Giants Pass D: The one thing the Giants can do well, or at least decently, is stop the pass. They don’t truly stop it as they limit it with a decent pass rush and opportunistic LBs. New York is 16th in the NFL in defending the pass, far better than their other numbers on both offense and defense.

Giants vs Chargers Key Stats
27: The biggest advantage a team has when making NFL picks is at the QB position. Justin Herbert has thrown 27 TDs in 12 games.
25:27: The sack ratio for how many times Herbert has been sacked versus how often the Chargers defense has sacked opposing QBs.
249: Herbert is the team’s second-leading rusher with 249 yards on the ground, second behind Austin Ekeler.
15: Ekeler has 15 combined TDs this season and it’s split down the middle with 8 on the ground and 7 in the air.
90.8: The Giants offense is pitiful when gaining yards on the ground, 26th in the NFL with a healthy Barkley back in the fold.
5: Giants rookie safety Xavier McKinney has five INTs this season, something to keep an eye on for Justin Herbert INT props.

Giants vs Chargers Player Props
Mike Glennon Over 208.5 Passing Yards
Odds: +100 at DraftKings ➜
The Giants are going to have to throw, a lot. Glennon should have a healthy bunch of WRs to target, and Barkley out of the backfield. He will throw enough to go over this number.

Austin Ekeler Over 56.5 Rushing Yards
Odds: -120 at DraftKings ➜
The number is a little low, reflected by the juice, but he should have little problem going over. Ekeler will be the heavy focus of an offense down its top WR threat. Plus the Chargers will be up holding a lead.
Saquon Barkley Over 54.5 Rushing Yards
Odds: -115 at BetMGM ➜
If there was ever a game geared for Barkley to break out this year, it’s against one of the worst rush defenses in the NFL. Glennon will need a run game, unlike Jones who can scamper on his own. Expect Barkley to get a lot of carries.

Giants vs Chargers Moneyline
The Chargers are north of a 5-to-1 lay for ML points and may not even move your parlay that much. The only value would be on the Giants taking advantage of a Chargers team that has so little respect for its opponent, they let down in epic fashion.
It’s not like the Chargers are in double-digit wins, and they have had a letdown or two at 7-5, but it’s really just the Giants who are struggling – especially if they are down to a third-string QB.

Giants vs Chargers Spread
We do see this line hover just above a key number at 10, but it may dip below depending on how much sharp money comes in on NY. If you like the Giants, then jump on any of your favorite betting sites and take the hook now.
Chargers backers may do themselves a solid by waiting a little longer, especially if both Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler miss time with injury/illness. At the very least, the threat of one or either of them missing time would drop the line. Take the Chargers -10.5 (-105) at BetMGM. ➜

Giants vs Chargers Total
As rough as the Chargers run defense has looked, they did a solid job holding back the Bengals offense last week. The Giants are just going to struggle to move the football and at some point the Chargers are just going to suffer from boredom and run the clock out on a blowout.
Don’t expect much from the Giants offense, and even the Chargers might slow down by the time they hit 30. Take the Under 44.5 (-110) at FanDuel. ➜
