After 18 years as a head coach in the NFL, the last 14 with the Seattle Seahawks, it appears Pete Carroll has mangled his last piece of gum on the sidelines.

Carroll, it has been reported, will step away from coaching the Seahawks but remain with the team in another role. Carroll, 71, has 170 wins and a Super Bowl championship to a Hall of Fame resume.

The Seahawks will be seeking a new coach, and GM John Schneider has one of the steadier franchises in the league to dangle to the top coaching prospects.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has established the NFL futures odds as to the Seahawks' next head coach.

Who Will Replace Pete Carroll As Seahawks Next HC?

The Seahawks had just one losing record in the past 12 years, that being Russell Wilson’s dysfunctional final year in Seattle. The team missed out on the postseason this year, but in a tiebreaker, going 9-8 for the second season in a row.

While some teams prefer offensive gurus over defensive ones, Seattle can play it down the middle. It is likely to draw interest from the top candidates.

The hottest names involve coordinators whose teams finished one step from a Super Bowl berth. Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald leads the way, displaying a firm grasp of the modern NFL, a trait Seattle has often been considered ahead of the curve.

The Seahawks just got their first interview with Macdonald on Jan. 30, but NFL insiders believe the team will move swiftly to land their top man.

Dan Quinn, who led the Falcons to a Super Bowl and has been leading the Cowboys’ defense as its coordinator, has more experience than many of the other coordinators on the market. Reports immediately surfaced that the Seahawks were looking seriously at Quinn for their head coaching position, though his name has cooled on the market.

Titans former coach Mike Vrabel stands a strong chance to get a head gig somewhere in 2024. Seattle is more of a win-now position that could prefer a veteran leader, giving Vrabel a leg up on some of the blue-chip candidates. As of Jan. 30, however, the team had yet to officially interview Vrabel for the spot.

Panthers DC Ejiro Evero was pegged with a second interview request from the Seahawks.

The Field is led by other strong defensive minds have been trending upward. That includes Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, who gained interest over the last couple weeks from several teams. Giants OC Mike Kafka has had contact with Seattle, among other teams.
