While not the most prestigious or lucrative event on the schedule, the annual John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run is an annual staple in Silvis, Illinois, and one of the longest-running events on the PGA Tour. And, with several big names resting up for the British Open, it annually provides a chance for some of the rising stars and underappreciated grinders to have their moment.

David Lipsky, Top-10 Finish

Odds: +700 at DraftKings

Lipsky is quietly enjoying some success in his first full season on Tour. He’s made more cuts than he’s missed, with seven top-25 finishes and three top-10s. When he makes it to the weekend, good things happen. Lipsky comes in off back-to-back missed cuts, but he’s a strong irons player and accurate off the tee – two things that bode very well around TPC Deere Run.

He’s also capable of going low with three sub-65 rounds already this season, and he’s 12th on Tour in eagle average. We’re going to have to take some chances on guys this week given the field, and this looks like a good place to start.

2022 John Deere Classic Betting Tips

We all know what to expect this week. Nothing tricky and plenty of circles on the scorecard. Players always need to go low around here given the straightforward nature of TPC Deere Run, which plays less than 7,300 yards and is relatively generous off the tee. Shorter hitters can definitely compete and win here, which we’ve seen plenty of times. Michael Kim ranked 153rd on Tour in driving distance when he blitzed the field to finish 27-under-par, winning by eight shots in 2018.

Throwing darts into receptive greens and draining putts is the name of the game this week, so Strokes Gained Approach will be our most significant stat by far. Guys who enter in good form or have a strong history at the John Deere are all on the table – driving distance and age don’t seem to be much of a determining factor around here.

For our PGA betting picks, we’re targeting a group of lesser-known players with great iron games and the ability to get hot and make a bunch of birdies in crunch time.
