Oddsmakers Split on Sean Longstaff to Manchester United Deal
There are always plenty of surprises on transfer deadline day but the bookies appear split on whether Manchester United will land Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff.
Longstaff burst onto the scene last season under Rafa Benitez, making nine Premier League appearances for the Magpies before his campaign was ended early by injury.
Manchester United have been busy in this summer's transfer window and their signings have had a very British feel to it, bringing in Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.
Longstaff has been a prime target for Manchester United, but so far they have been put off by Newcastle’s valuation for the midfielder, with reports suggesting up to £70million ($85m) may be needed to eventually sign him.
The bookies have differing opinions on whether Longstaff will be on the move before Thursday's deadline with William Hill odds-on at 1/4 (-400) for the midfielder to switch to Old Trafford, while the potential deal is as a big as 11/2 (+550) elsewhere.
Longstaff is also rated odds-on for a move to Manchester United at 4/9 (-225) with Betfair and Paddy Power, while Betfred go 3/1 (+300) for the Magpies to sell the young midfielder to the Red Devils and the move is best-priced at 11/2 (+550) elsewhere.
Outsiders For Longstaff’s Signature
Arsenal are rated a 20/1 (+2000) shot with Paddy Power to make a late foray for Longstaff with the Gunners available at 25/1 (+2500) with William Hill and 33/1 with Betfred to snap up the England youth international.
Longstaff looks like a tremendous prospect with Newcastle but he's made just nine Premier League appearances for The Magpies. The bulk of his senior experience comes from playing in League One for Blackpool (2017/18) so joining United would come with an unbelievable amount of pressure.
Liverpool have been very quiet in the transfer market this summer and they are 25/1 (+2500) with William Hill to steal in and sign Longstaff ahead of Manchester United.
William Hill also go 25/1 (+2500) for Tottenham to make a late swoop for Longstaff and that is the same price at Betfair and Paddy Power, with Betfred offering the best price of 33/1 (+3300) for Longstaff to make the move to north London before Thursday's 5pm deadline.
Newcastle are in a strong position with Longstaff as he is under contract for a further three years and the ball is in their court as clubs are running out of time for any potential transfer to happen.
