Week 2 of NFL betting season offers a matchup of the past 2 QBs to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

A healthy Joe Burrow brings his Cincy Cats to Kansas City to face back-to-back Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes and the host Chiefs.

RELATED: Super Bowl 59 Odds

Burrow and the Bengals were the last AFC team to beat Kansas City in the postseason. But that was in the AFC Championship Game following the 2021-22 season. The Bengals beat the Chiefs 27-24 in OT in that game.

Burrow missed the final 7 games of last season due to injury, and the Bengals faded from the playoff picture. This game could play a role in determining home-field advantage in the postseason if both teams play to their expected form this season.

Week 2 begins with an AFC East showdown on Thursday night between the Buffalo Bills and the home team Miami Dolphins. This game comes in the throes of hurricane season in South Florida, so anything can happen weather-wise.

Sunday night offers a nifty meeting between sophomore sensation QB C.J. Stroud and Houston against the Chicago Bears and No. 1 overall pick QB Caleb Williams

Kirk Cousins and the Falcons venture into Philly to meet the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday night. Expect the locals to be vocal due to the 8:20 p.m. kickoff and ESPN audience.

2024 NFL Week 2 Best Bets To Back Today

NFL Week 2 Picks, Betting Predictions & Best Bets To Back: Burrow vs. Mahomes 1

Thursday, September 12

Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins, 8:15 p.m. (Prime Video)

Buzz: The winner should have an early claim on bragging rights in the AFC East. Or at least as the early challenger to Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. Both teams made significant roster moves in the off-season. This is each team’s first real-test. This line is discounted given concerns about the Dolphins that have arisen this offseason, most notably the new leaner Tua Tagovailoa. A beefier Tua started all 18 games the Dolphins played last season, but Miami did not make it past the first round. Given the potential for harsh – if not merely hot and humid South Florida – weather. And this game coming just 2 weeks into the season, we’re going to lean on the under.

Best Bet: Under 51 Points (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Sunday, September 15

New York Jets at Tennessee Titans, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: Assuming Aaron Rodgers makes it through Week 1 in one piece, the Jets will need to win games like these if they hope to go “all gas and no brakes” into the playoffs. And/or win the AFC East champions. The Jets defense could pitch a shutout here or come close to it. Even in Music City.

Best Bet: Under 43.5 Points (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Las Vegas Raiders at Baltimore Ravens, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: Lamar Jackson and the Ravens are built for games like this. The Raiders are a West Coast/Pacific Time Zone team having to travel to the East Coast for an early start. The Raiders may need all season to get their offensive to produce more than 2 TDs each week. This is a big line for June, but don’t expect to shrink unless there’s a catastrophic injury between now and kickoff.

Best Bet: Ravens -7 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Cleveland Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The only caveat here for anyone who wants to back the favored Browns is the weather. The early-September sun can be brutal in Jacksonville. Teams coming from cooler climes never seem to be fully acclimated in September. Both teams have a projected win total of 8.5 games. The Browns have the toughest schedule in the NFL based on the opponent's winning percentage last season. Here, the heat and humidity may swing it Jacksonville’s way.

Best Bet: Jaguars ML (-115) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Los Angeles Chargers at Carolina Panthers, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The Chargers travel to the East Coast for an early start. These situations usually offer a prime opportunity for a lowly team like the Panthers to pull off an upset, or a backdoor cover. This number is surprisingly tight. And a sign that oddsmakers have little faith that Jim Harbaugh will have his offense 100% NFL ready. If this game was in Week 1, we’d bite at the upset. But the Chargers should be able to sleep-walk to a cover in Charlotte.

Best Bet: Chargers -3 (-115) with DraftKings Sportsbook

New Orleans Saints at Dallas Cowboys, 1 p.m. (Fox)

Buzz: The Cowboys were a solid 6-3 ATS at home last season, covering an average line of 8.9 points. This number is a bit lower than what they traditionally fetch at home. You might want to grab it now, given that the Saints have yet to firm their choice for the No. 1 QB spot.

Best Bet: Dallas -6 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

New York Giants at Washington Commanders, 1 p.m. (Fox)

Buzz: The Commanders were the only NFL team not to cover at home last season. The Giants, conversely, were the No. 3 team on the road ATS at 5-2-1. The Commanders have a new head coach (Dan Quinn) and new starting QB in rookie/2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels. Meanwhile, Saquon Barkley has taken his talents to Philly. The Giants will suffer through one more season with Daniel Jones as their starting QB, as they battle the Patriots and Panthers for the No. 1 overall pick.

Best Bet: Commanders -3 (+100) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Indianapolis Colts at Green Bay Packers, 1 p.m. (Fox)

Buzz: The Colts make a rare visit to Lambeau Field. Indy QB Anthony Richardson was lost for the season in Week 4 last year. He’s just 22. And played an abbreviated career in the SEC at Florida. His lone road game last year was played inside a subdued NRG Stadium. The crowd at Lambeau could be a factor. If it gets itself motivated for the noon kickoff against an AFC South foe. The Packers are coming off a Friday game in Brazil in Week 1. Expect them to be well rested and ready. This line is a bargain given that it should expand before kickoff.

Best Bet: Packers -4 (-108) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Detroit Lions, 1 p.m. (Fox)

Buzz: The Lions have the best overall record ATS since the start of the 2021 season (37-17 68.5%) heading into this season. But they’ve slipped at home of late, covering in just 6 of 10 games last season. Last season, the Lions sunk the Pirate Ship in Tampa Bay by a 20-6 score. Tampa Bay has brought back much of the band this season, keeping both QB Baker Mayfield and WR Mike Evans. Given the stability of both offenses from last season to this, we’ll bite on the over in what could be an early-season offensive show.

Best Bet: Over 48.5 Points (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Seattle Seahawks at New England Patriots, 1 p.m. (Fox)

Buzz: This will be the first Patriots home game not coached by Bill Belichick since the 1999 season. If Tom Brady gets the nod to call this game for Fox, it will be must-see TV. Fox does not have a late-afternoon national game in Week 2. So Brady could well be dispatched to his former home stadium on Route 1 south of Boston. QB Jacoby Brissett is expected to be New England’s starter. Rookie and No. 3 pick Drake Maye waits for his turn to become New England’s next franchise QB. The Patriots and Seahawks feature rookie head coaches this season in Jerod Mayo and Michael Macdonald. All fertile ground for analyst Brady. Especially as both teams struggle to find the end zone.

Best Bet: Under 42.5 Points (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings, 1 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: The 49ers are favored for a return to the Super Bowl this season and the No. 2 pick to win it, behind Kansas City. The Vikings drafted J.J.  McCarthy from the national champion Michigan Wolverines in April. But they signed Sam Darnold as a place holder in the QB1 spot. They’ve also locked up WR Justin Jefferson for the duration. The 49ers return a defense held the Chiefs to 19 points in regulation during Super Bowl 58. The post-Super Bowl-loss hangover is the most lethal in sports. But the Niners are stacked on both sides of the ball. And they covered in 6 of 9 road games last season.

Best Bet: 49ers -6 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Los Angeles Rams at Arizona Cardinals, 4:05 p.m. (Fox)

Buzz: The Cardinals are an annual choice among many to be “that team that will turn it around this season.” Arizona owns the basement of the NFC West. And they’ve been deemed in “QB purgatory” with Kyler Murray under center. Murray has rookie WR Marvin Harrison as a new toy. The Rams overachieved last season and have seemed to recover from all those trades that built their Super Bowl winning team three years ago. They should be able to keep pace with Arizona this week and grab this cover.

Best Bet: Rams -2.5 (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Pittsburgh Steelers at Denver Broncos, 4:25 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: Steelers QB Russell Wilson returns to Denver in Week 2. All 76,125 fans at Empower Field at Mile High could greet him with a collective yawn in honor of this performance as a member of the Broncos. Pittsburgh offers Wilson the opportunity for a bounce back season, since the Steelers won’t be relying on him to lead anything resembling a high-octane offense. The Broncos’ QB room post-Wilson rivals that of the UFL on combine day. Denver could well be outscored by Pittsburgh’s defense in its home opener.

Best Bet: Steelers -3 (-112) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs, 4:25 p.m. (CBS)

Buzz: This game offers a matchup between the last 2 starting QBs to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. Only 2 QBs have beaten Patrick Mahomes in the postseason. One is Tom Brady. He’ll likely be calling the Seahawks-Patriots game on Fox. The other is Joe Burrow. The Bengals and Burrow beat KC in the AFC Championship Game following the 2021 season in OT 27-24. Burrow is expected to be fully healthy after missing the final 2 months of last season. Cincinnati drew New England in Week 1. Any issues with its offensive should be tested and fixed here by kickoff. This game could well give the winner an early edge in the race for home field advantage in the AFC. The Chiefs are a +300 favorite to win it, while the Bengals are the No. 3 pick at +700, behind Baltimore at +550. Chiefs bettors continue to pay a premium and the team failed to cover as a home favorite in 4 of 10 tries last season. We’re leaning on the Bengals to win this one outright.

Best Bet: Bengals ML (+150) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Chicago Bears at Houston Texans, 8:20 p.m. (NBC)

Buzz: A rare Sunday night game in Houston offers a potential peek at two future elite NFL QBs in Houston’s super sophomore C.J. Stroud and No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams of the Bears. The crowd might make a difference here, as the Texans look to ride the surge they began last season. The Texans should hold an edge in terms of having their offense in gear, given that this will likely be Williams’ second NFL start. Houston was 4-1 as a home favorite last year. And this line looks solid at -3. Look for it to potentially expand as kickoff approaches. The over on 47 is also tempting.

Best Bet: Texans -3 (-120) with DraftKings Sportsbook

Monday, September 16

Atlanta Falcons at Philadelphia Eagles, 8:15 p.m. (ESPN)

Buzz: Two birds of prey. The Eagles home opener comes 10 days after a season-opener in Brazil against Green Bay. They should be well rested. And the locals will be fully lubricated given the 8:20 p.m. kickoff. The Eagles struggled with a painful Super Bowl-loss hangover all last season. They are poised for a rebound. And Philly added RB Saquon Barkley to stabilize the offense, and,  hopefully, keep its defense off the field. Kirk Cousins is the new QB 1 in Atlanta. Michael Penix waits on the bench for Cousins’ next inevitable injury. Meanwhile, both offenses should put on a show here. Philly was 7-1 on the over at home last season.

Best Bet: Over 48.5 Points (-110) with DraftKings Sportsbook
