Jack Draper vs Andrey Rublev

Jack Draper is a promising talent, but after a season derailed by a rash of injuries, low expectations preceded him into the US Open. After all, he was no more than a spectator at his home grand slam of Wimbledon and played two warm-up events –  Winnipeg Challenger and the Winston Salem Open, the latter of which he was forced to withdraw from with a niggling shoulder injury.

Now, against the odds, he’s through to the R16 of a grand slam for the first time in his career. Draper overcame Michael Mmoh and a partisan crowd to take the 6-4 6-2 3-6 6-3 win in the third round. Before that, he upset No. 17 Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets.

Repeating a similar feat against Andrey Rublev will be tough for the 21-year-old Briton given the fact that he’s lost two of their previous meetings (both in 2022). But with the Russian No. 8 seed dropping a set in his last two matches, backing Draper to put up some resistance is worth a flutter.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Matteo Arnaldi

Carlos Alcaraz advanced into the fourth round behind a 6-2,  6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Daniel Evans. He wasn’t at his indomitable best, but he generated enough bits of brilliance to keep the highlight reel rolling as his fans have come to expect of him.

Matteo Arnaldi emerges as a surprise R16 contender, upsetting Cameron Norrie in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 to earn his place opposite Alcaraz in the fourth round.

The 22-year-old Italian from San Remo is having the tournament of his life. Prior to the 2023 US Open, Arnaldi won a whopping total of one grand slam match in his career.

Alcaraz should find things pretty straightforward against his inexperienced counterpart, but as the whopping -5000 favorite on the moneyline, bettors will need to be more creative when backing the 20-year-old Spaniard to book his place in the quarterfinals.

Alexander Zverev vs Jannik Sinner

In one of the more attractive matchups on the day’s card. Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner will face off in a mouthwatering clash with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line.

Sinner is the favorite as we look at the latest tennis odds. He is coming off his maiden Masters victory in Canada and he’s playing at the peak of his powers right now.

But Zverev leads the head-to-head series, having won three on the trot against the 22-year-old Italian. Zverev won seven of the eight sets played between them during this stretch, including a straight-set win in the R16 of the 2021 US Open.

Given their history, Zverev looks to be underrated here and that makes him worth an interest for the upset.

Whichever way you are slicing this match for your tennis picks, this has all the hallmarks of being a drawn-out contest that goes to four or five sets.

US Open Best Bet: over 39.5 -115 at BetMGM

Ons Jabeur vs Qinwen Zheng

Ons Jabeur needed to go the distance to overcome a spirited Marie Bouzkova, 5-7, 7-6(5), 6-3. Next up for the Tunisian trailblazer is Qinwen Zheng, who needed three sets as well to take out Lucie Bronzetti on Saturday.

This is the first-ever meeting between the pair and both arrive at this stage having dropped a set in each of their last two matches.

Opportunity could be knocking for Zheng, as Jabeur appears to be laboring under the aftereffects of a viral illness that she caught at the start of the tournament. But the 28-year-old Chinese player can’t take anything for granted. Even a less than 100% Jabeur is tough to beat.

US Open Best Bet: Jabeur to win -190 at BetMGM

Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys

The all-American showdown between Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys was the marquee matchup everyone had circled when the draw first came out and it’s finally here.

Keys blasted past Liudmila Samsonova, outshooting the Russian in a comeback 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 victory. Pegula was also pushed to the limit before taking the 6-4, 4-6,  6-2 victory over Elina Svitolina.

Pegula owns the lone win between them, having beaten Keys in two tight sets in San Diego last year. But more, these two are good friends who will have to set aside their friendship for this battle for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Both Pegula and Keys are in peak form right now, making the winner of a total tossup, so backing the totals is probably the best strategy.

US Open Best Bet: Over 21.5 -105 at DraftKings

Aryna Sabalenka vs Daria Kasatkina

Sabalenka has made the semi-finals of the US Open in back-to-back seasons and she has reached the semis in the last four grand slams. The Belarussian has made a scorching start at Flushing Meadows this season, winning three matches without dropping a set and relinquishing no more than five games.

Daria Kasatkina will hope to halt Sabalenka’s progress when the pair collide in the fourth round. The Russian represents a significant step up in the competition and she should give Sabalenka a tougher test. However, Sabalenka leads their head-to-head series 4-2, which includes a 6-3, 6-3 win over the Russian in Cincinnati last month. Thus, Sabalenka is worth backing for the outright win in straight sets.

US Open Best Bet: Sabalenka to win in straight sets (3-0) +100 at bet365
