Alexis Mac Allister was a relative unknown player when he was signed by Brighton in January 2019. After signing a four-and-a-half year contract, the Argentine was loaned back to Argentinos Juniors before making his Seagulls debut during the 2019-20 season in a goalless draw at Wolves in the Premier League, and he has gone on to make big strides since then.

Mac Allister is now regarded as one of the key players for a progressive Brighton side who look set to qualify for European football next season. His stock rose when breaking into the Argentina national side, and this meteoric rise saw him play a prominent role for his country when winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

It’s little wonder that there is plenty of transfer speculation surrounding Mac Allister right now. Indeed, the leading football betting sites are expecting the 24-year-old to make a switch from the AMEX Stadium this summer, with clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United expected to be interested in the player.

Could Liverpool Snap Up World Cup Winner?

It’s almost inconceivable that Liverpool wouldn’t be interested in signing Mac Allister this summer. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been given assurances that there will be money to spend on new players, and it’s clear that the midfield department needs strengthening the most. Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho are increasingly less effective for the Anfield side.

It was perhaps telling that Klopp fielded Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott from the start in their 4-3 win over Tottenham, and Mac Allister is someone who can add some quality in this department. The Argentine can operate both as a defensive midfielder and in a more advanced position.

Mac Allister may be open to a switch to Merseyside despite Liverpool looking likely to miss out on a Champions League spot next season. Many betting apps anticipate that the Merseyside outfit could be the ones to snap Mac Allister up, according to the latest betting odds.

Would Champions League Football Convince Mac Allister to Join Man United?

Mac Allister recently played in a World Cup final, helping Argentina beat France after a penalty shootout, and a taste of the big tournaments might convince the Argentine to move to a club that can offer him Champions League football next season. Manchester United are on the verge of securing a Premier League top-four spot, which means they can potentially lure a higher grade of player to Old Trafford.

Mac Allister has made 91 appearances for Brighton and scored 14 goals, and he has earned 16 caps for Argentina. He will want to make sure that he moves to a big club in order to keep his place in the national team. Joining fellow Argentines Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho at United could appeal to Mac Allister.

Manchester United are likely to have new owners soon, and they could look to make a number of statement signings, including Mac Allister along with the likes of Harry Kane and Declan Rice. The Red Devils would have to stump up a sizeable transfer fee as Brighton have previously demonstrated they are willing sellers but only at the right price.

Chelsea Prepared to Splash More Cash This Summer

Chelsea laid out a big sum of cash to land Enzo Fernandez in January, and perhaps they can land his World Cup-winning team-mate this summer too. The 22-year-old might be delighted to be joined in the midfield engine room by Mac Allister, who is two years older.

Chelsea have demonstrated their pulling power already despite the team not being very good this season. Over £500 million was spent this season, and it’s fairly certain that possible incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino would approve of bringing in his compatriot to operate in the middle of the park.

Mac Allister would be keen to get first-team assurances, and he could effectively replace Mateo Kovacic, while it seems N’Golo Kante spends more time on the sidelines than on the pitch these days. The London club are among the favourites with new betting sites to sign Mac Allister.

Can Brighton Convince Mac Allister to Stay?

Mac Allister is contracted to Brighton until the summer of 2025, and Seagulls owner Tony Bloom will make sure that any big clubs sniffing around the Argentine would have to part with a considerable sum of cash in order to land this player. There’s always the prospect that the midfielder will remain at the club for another season.

Moises Caicedo was denied a move to Arsenal in January, and Brighton will only sell if the price is right. It’s hard to know exactly what sort of transfer fee the south coast club will want for their star player, but we should expect it to be considerably bigger than £50 million.

Arsenal Could Also Be In Running to Land Mac Allister

Arsenal have successfully raided Brighton on a couple of occasions recently. The Gunners snapped up defender Ben White two seasons ago, and this transfer has worked out well for the London outfit. Leandro Trossard was a more recent arrival, and the Belgian has also looked top notch for a title-chasing outfit since joining in January.

With Thomas Partey being injury-prone and Arsenal in the Champions League next season, it might be that Mac Allister represents an astute signing for the Gunners, with the 24-year-old no doubt being offered a big contract to help Arsenal potentially reach the next level.
