West Ham have continued their pursuit of Harry Maguire by offering over £50 million for the combined services of the central defender and Scott McTominay. The pair are thought to be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, and perhaps Manchester United will agree to their valuation and allow Maguire to start a new lease of life.

The Hammers are now odds-on with the best betting apps to sign the England defender along with a midfielder who could help fill the gap left by Declan Rice's £105 million move to Arsenal. It's also been reported that Everton are potentially keen on exploring a loan move for the England international, although Manchester United would apparently prefer to receive cash for a player which originally cost them £80 million.

As expected, Maguire lost the United captaincy earlier in the summer, and it's clear that he's far from first-choice material at Old Trafford, although Erik Ten Hag has made all the right noises about keeping the player in the squad. However, it might now be that the 30-year-old is now forced out of a club despite being midway though a sizeable contract, with the player's salary increasing after United making the Champions League last season.

The latest transfer odds suggest the defender might remain at Old Trafford for the 2023/24 season. Although the England man is 'extremely disappointed' by Erik ten Hag's decision to remove the armband, it hardly came as a surprise considering Maguire was a bit-part player for the Red Devils last term. He has been featuring regularly for United in pre-season and doesn't seem to have any strong desire to leave.

Leaving would mean the end of a four-year spell at Old Trafford, with Maguire arriving from Leicester in the summer of 2019 for the princely sum of £80 million. It's fair to say the central defender has never really lived up to his price tag at Old Trafford. Despite making 56 appearances for England, including being an ever-present for the Three Lions at the 2022 World Cup, Maguire became a squad player for the Red Devils in the Premier League last season.

It is clear that Erik ten Hag does not particularly rate Maguire for the way he wants his team to play, with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez the preferred central defensive pairing. Luke Shaw has often been preferred ahead of Maguire under the Dutchman, and a move away from Old Trafford could be on the cards this summer. West Ham and Tottenham could lead the way in the pursuit of the player's signature, although Ten Hag has reportedly asked that Maguire stays to be part of the squad.

Football betting sites are now offering transfer betting odds for Maguire, and there’s likely to be plenty of interest in a player who is currently in the middle of a six-year contract at United. That means a transfer fee would have to be involved for the 30-year-old, with the Red Devils potentially ready to cut their losses.

West Ham Favourites to Land Maguire

West Ham appear to be at the front of the queue to sign a player who would surely walk into the first team at the London Stadium, although the Hammers are reluctant to spend big money on the player. A bid worth £20 million was recently rejected by United, although it's been reported that the London club have now submitted a bid of over £50 million for Maguire and Scott McTominay.

Maguire is thought to be open to a switch to a club playing in the Europa League next season, with West Ham having just received north of £100 million from selling Declan Rice to Arsenal. It could be that they had to raise some funds before being able to land someone who can still be highly effective as a central defender in the Premier League. However, the player's wages could be a sticking point in terms of getting a deal over the line.

Bookies think that West Ham are now Maguire's most likely destination if he were to leave, although even salary demands could be an issue considering the player received a big wage increase after Manchester United qualified for next season's Champions League, even if the defender was often on the bench.

Could Maguire Still Stay in Manchester?

Manchester United have an issue with Harry Maguire's potential departure despite him losing the captaincy. The 30-year-old has a contract that takes him through to the summer of 2025, which means that any transfer would have to involve the north-west club trying to recoup some of the £80 million that they spent when signing him from Leicester City.

Maguire is clearly going to be on the bench if he stays at Old Trafford, and he was jeered after making a mistake against Athletic Bilbao in a recent pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao.

Realistically, no club will be prepared to spend anything like the above amount to sign a player who had another difficult season at Old Trafford. United may be looking to recoup around 50% of that original transfer fee, although betting apps think there’s a possibility that Maguire will stay put, with Erik Ten Hag apparently wanting the defender to remain part of the squad. West Ham's recent offer of £20 million appears to be well wide of the mark.

United will be competing in the Champions League next season. Perhaps Maguire will get more game time, especially with Varane and Martinez both having had injury problems last season. Maguire has made 41 appearances for club and country since the beginning of June 2022 even if a lot of these were from the bench.

Everton Could Offer Starting Berth for Maguire

While Maguire is still turning out for Manchester United right now, it might be that a transfer is imminent and Everton are now among the favourites to sign the player. The Toffees would dearly love to bolster their defensive ranks with the England international, who could do a good job for Sean Dyche.

Maguire moving to Goodison Park would still mean he can remain located in the north-west and also be a regular starter for the Toffees, something that would likely ensure he remains in the England squad. He would also play alongside international team-mate Jordan Pickford.

There have been rumours that Everton could be prepared to offer £30 million for the player, although much would come down to wages considering Maguire was given a salary increase following United's qualification to the Champions League. It's been more recently reported that the Merseyside club would like a potential loan deal although United are keener on an actual transfer fee.

Tottenham to Sign England Defender?

If Harry Maguire is to leave Manchester United this summer, then perhaps Tottenham could be a club that could signs him. The latest bookies betting odds suggest Spurs could be interested in landing someone who can add steel to the back line, with Ange Postecoglou looking to shape the squad over the summer.

It had previously been reported that United were interested in signing Harry Kane ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, with Maguire potentially forming some kind of makeweight to help the deal happen. However, that Kane deal appears dead in the water, but a move would still help Maguire secure first-team football and represent a fresh start for someone who wants to be featuring for England at Euro 2024.

The odds for Tottenham signing Maguire have been gradually shortening in the past few weeks, and it's a move that would seemingly suit all parties, although much depends on whether the central defender has the appetite to fight for his place at Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag seemingly not rating him based on the evidence so far.

Fresh Start For Maguire At Villa?

Harry Maguire might be looking for pastures new this summer, and perhaps United might also be glad to remove their highly-paid player from their books, especially with new owners likely to take charge of the club in the coming weeks or months. Aston Villa are in a good position to land his signature as they will be playing in Europe next season because of their impressive Premier League form that saw them finish seventh and qualify for the Europa Conference League.

Maguire is not dissimilar in profile to Tyrone Mings, who performed well for the Villans last season, and perhaps Unai Emery could see the merits in signing a player with a wealth of international experience. He’s also someone who poses a threat from set pieces and has scored seven times for England.

Villa are looking to strengthen this summer after Emery replaced Steven Gerrard midway through the season. The Spaniard might like the idea of Maguire’s presence in front of goalkeeper Emi Martinez, with the England man offering plenty of leadership qualities along with experience from his time playing for United.

Would Newcastle Be Interested in Maguire?

Eddie Howe seems to be a fan of working with English players, with Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn having all been successful signings under Howe at Newcastle. With Champions League football coming to St James’ Park next season, Maguire could bring his qualities and experience to help the Magpies reach the next level.

Maguire has worked with Pope and Trippier on England duty and could be open to a switch to another northern club, having previously turned out for Hull City and Sheffield United. The 30-year-old might be attracted to heading to a football-mad city and the chance to get his career back on track after a season in the football wilderness.

Although Gareth Southgate retained him in the England team for the 2022 World Cup, it’s clear that Maguire will need to be playing first-team football to retain his place in the Three Lions squad moving forward, and new betting sites think that Newcastle are prepared to take a chance on someone who has largely been reliable throughout his career.
