The first major tournament of 2024 began this week, as the best players in the world make their way to Alexandra Palace to compete for the Masters. Twelve of the 16 competitors have either won the tournament or made the final, which should ensure this is an incredibly tightly fought tournament. One of those players to have never reached the final is reigning world champion Luca Brecel, who was knocked out in the first round by Jack Lisowski.

Shaun Murphy has made serene progress in the tournament so far with a 6-2 win over Zhang Anda and a 6-3 victory over Jack Lisowski. He now faces the formiddable Ronnie O'Sullivan in the semi-finals. But with the Rocket far from his best in the quarter-final, this could be a great chance for Murphy to go all the way.
