Leeds United are now close to appointing a new manager, with Daniel Farke's odds suggesting that the German is imminently set to take charge at Elland Road. The former Norwich City manager will be tasked with steering the Whites back to the Premier League, with Farke seemingly the preferred candidate over Patrick Vieira in the end.

Last week, betting sites had Vieira trading as the market leader, but it now appears as though Farke's experience of engineering two automatic promotions with Norwich has swung the balance in his favour. The German has been hugely successful with the Canaries in the Championship even if he's struggled in the top flight.

Football betting sites previously had Graham Potter one of the favourites for the job, with the former Brighton and Chelsea boss potentially open to returning to the dugout for a Championship side, and he's previously managed Swansea at this level.

Leeds will want to bounce back immediately after their relegation and make a swift return to the Premier League.

Could Farke Return to England With Leeds?

Daniel Farke is now the favourite with most betting apps to take charge at Leeds United, with the German having previously enjoyed a spell at Norwich City between 2017 and 2021. After a modest first season at Carrow Road, he was then able to steer the Canaries to promotion during the 2018/19 season, although they struggled in the Premier League in the following campaign.

However, promotion was once again achieved in the 2020/21 season, and Farke was optimistic at making a better fist of survival. However, a succession of losses saw the 46-year-old given the axe and replaced by Dean Smith, with Farke having more recently had a spell in charge of Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.

It's little surprise that Leeds will want to land someone who has engineered two automatic promotions from the Championship with Norwich, and his latest betting odds suggest that he's on the shortlist for the job.

Vieira Shortens to Become Next Leeds Manager

Patrick Vieira was trading at odds of 18/1 to become the next manager of Leeds United last week, but his price has now shortened following reports that the Frenchman is under consideration to replace Sam Allardyce at Elland Road after the club's relegation.

Vieira apparently seems open to taking charge of the Championship outfit, with the 46-year-old set to be interviewed by the Leeds hierarchy this week, and he can point to the fact that he was relatively successful with Crystal Palace despite being sacked by the London outfit earlier this year.

Indeed, the biggest negative is the fact that the Eagles hadn't won a game in 2023 before Palace decided to replace Vieira with Roy Hodgson, although perhaps the Arsenal legend can convince the Yorkshire outfit that he's the man to rebuild the squad and have them challenging for promotion next term.

O'Neil Available After Surprise Sacking by Bournemouth

Gary O'Neil was a big hit at AFC Bournemouth during the 2022/23 Premier League season and it was anticipated that he would be the man to take the Cherries forward for the new campaign. However, the Englishman was replaced recently at the Vitality Stadium by Andoni Iraola, with the 40-year-old now considering his options.

O'Neil's achievements at the Dorset club shouldn't be underestimated, with the coach able to keep the Dorset outfit afloat in the most competitive division in world football. This was done on a relatively shoestring budget, with predecessor Scott Parker lamenting the lack of financial backing that he received.

It would come as no surprise if Leeds wanted to talk to O'Neil with regard to taking charge of United now that they're in the Championship and looking for a steady pair of hands to guide them in an upwards direction, although the club's recent policy of hiring and firing might make this something of a poisoned chalice.

Graham Potter Could Be on Leeds Shortlist

Graham Potter probably didn't expect to find himself in this position a year ago. The 47-year-old went into the 2022/23 season as manager of Brighton and Hove Albion and things started really well, with the former Swansea boss looking to steer the Seagulls into the European positions and his team playing really attractive football.

However, Potter couldn't resist the overtures from Chelsea, and he was appointed head coach at Stamford Bridge in early September 2022. At the time, he was handed a five-year deal by owner Todd Boehly, who had actively pursued Potter as soon as he had dispensed with the highly-regarded Thomas Tuchel.

Things didn't work out well at Chelsea for Potter, and he was recently relieved of first-team duties by the club who continue to be in the doldrums without this coach. However, Chelsea's loss could be Leeds' gain and perhaps this is a club where the manager can rebuild his reputation and a squad capable of being successful in the Premier League.

Could Corberan Make a Switch From West Brom?

Carlos Corberan is also among the favourites to become the next Leeds United manager with betting apps. The Spaniard is someone who could definitely be on the radar now that the Yorkshire outfit have been relegated from the Premier League to the Championship. After all, the 40-year-old has plenty of experience coaching in the second flight, with the manager having been successful at Huddersfield Town between 2020 and 2022.

Corberan had no right to steer Huddersfield into the Championship play-offs in the 2021/22 season where they were beaten by Nottingham Forest in the final, with the manager then having a brief spell with Olympiacos before taking charge of West Brom last season. It's worth noting that Corberan was linked to the Leeds manager's position after Jesse Marsch was sacked in February, and that prompted West Brom to offer their coach a new contract until 2027.

However, Albion haven't fulfilled their potential despite that bright start under the manager, and it could be that Leeds make a fresh approach for Corberan in the summer, with the Spaniard thought to be ambitious and perhaps the Yorkshire club would represent a better chance of success. It's been reported that the manager has a £2 million release clause in his contract.

Steven Gerrard No Longer Among Favourites in Betting

Steven Gerrard has been out of work since being sacked by Aston Villa on 20 October 2022. The 43-year-old paid the price for a poor start to the season after there had previously been lots of hope that he could continue the sterling work that had been achieved since he had replaced Dean Smith.

Gerrard will be eager to return to football management in some shape or form, with the Liverpool legend having cut his teeth at Rangers and performed impressively in the dugout. Not only did the Gers end Celtic's monopoly of the Scottish Premiership shortly after he took charge, they also went an entire season unbeaten.

Bookies did regard him as one of the favourites to replace Sam Allardyce at Leeds, although his time at Aston Villa might deter the Leeds board from going in this direction, with Gerrard having no experience of managing in the English Championship. He is no longer trading at a short price, with former Leeds midfielder Gary McAllister waiting in the wings as his assistant.

Parker Enters the Leeds Equation

Scott Parker began the 2022/23 Premier League season in charge of AFC Bournemouth but he was the first top-flight managerial casualty. The former England midfielder had steered the Cherries to automatic promotion the previous campaign, although he wasn't able to last long in the top flight and was vocal about the lack of financial backing in the transfer market.

The 42-year-old then had a short spell in charge of Club Brugge last term but is once again a free agent after things didn't work out too well in Belgium. It is thought that he is on the shortlist to take charge at Elland Road and he can point to a successful time of things when engineering promotion for Bournemouth at the first time of asking.

Parker previously fared well with Fulham and perhaps he can sell his football philosophy to Leeds United, with the bookies certainly respecting the chances of a manager who know what is required to build a promotion-winning side in the Championship.
