Erling Haaland was the winner of the 2022/23 PFA Player of the Year award, and the Norwegian was the clear favourite to win it for a second consecutive year after the first third of the season, when he started where he left off last year. However, an injury and then patchy form by his standards have left the path clear for two of his Manchester City team-mates. Phil Foden and Rodri are the clear favourites to take home this year's PFA Player of the Year award with most football betting sites.

With City in the driver's seat to be Premier League winners for the sixth time in seven years as they lead Arsenal and Liverpool by two points with just six games remaining, it is Foden and Rodri who are clear from the other contenders. While Arsenal were topping the league, the likes of Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka were closer to the top of the market at UK betting sites, while Mo Salah's performances haven't been as consistent as they could have been for Liverpool in the second half of the season.

Phil Foden Bookies' Odds-On Favourite

After showing huge amounts of promise since making his Premier League debut in the 2017/18 season and getting to double figures in terms of goals in the Premier League last year, it is this season that Foden has come of age. He's started more games in the league than any other season and has rewarded Pep Guardiola's faith with 16 goals and eight assists. It is his form that has helped propel City to the top of the table and makes him a slight favourite for the PFA crown with most betting apps.

Rodri Close Behind Foden

Rodri's stellar performances for the Cityzens last season led to him being respected in the Ballon d'Or voting, where he was able to land fifth place. The betting apps now think there's a fair chance he can land first spot in this season's PFA award.

The Spain international has been a key performer for Manchester City since signing from Atletico Madrid in 2019, with the player scoring the winning goal in last season's Champions League final. New betting sites think the 27-year-old is now the second most likely Manchester City player to win this award.

Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka Look Set to Miss Out

Declan Rice has been one of the signings of the season and has been one of Arsenal's best players whenever he has been on the pitch in their run to second place in the Premier League. He has been an all-action presence in the middle of the park either at the base of defence or slightly further up if playing alongside Jorginho.

If Arsenal are able to overcome City then Rice might be a potential winner of the PFA Player of the Award, and he has not been completely ruled out with most betting sites offering him at a single-figure price still.

The same can be said for his Arsenal and England team-mate Bukayo Saka, who has once again been the team's most productive player in the league. He scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists last term and has another 16 goals and nine assists this season for a Gunners team that has scored more than any other team in the Premier League. However, his chances of glory are likely to go the same as Arsenal's at present, with most football betting sites believing that Foden and Rodri have far more compelling reasons to be crowned player of the year.

Erling Haaland Patchy Form Counts Against Him

Erling Haaland is fast on the way to becoming a Manchester City legend. The Norwegian scored 36 Premier League goals last season and helped his team secure an historic treble. The forward led the scoring charts earlier in the season at better than a goal a game but then injury struck, and he hasn't been the same efficient scorer he was prior to that.

So much so that bookies are not sold that Haaland will scoop the award for the second consecutive season. He has still scored 25 goals in 28 Premier League games, but he is currently being overshadowed in the market by Foden and Rodri.

There are other Haaland markets if you're interested in betting on how many goals he will score during the 2023/24 season and each game, with bookies pricing up the various goal milestones that will be reached by the Norway international.
