If you’re looking for an alternative Premier League betting market, the Premier League top-six market provides punters with the chance to bet on any team to finish higher than seventh in the final overall standings. The beauty of this market is that six teams will be settled as a winner, and it’s also an opportunity to bet on a club who might not realistically be able to secure a top-four place in the top flight but are in with a stronger chance when it comes to landing a spot in the Europa League.

Tottenham Hotspur have been big market movers since the start of the season, with Spurs securing 26 points from their opening 12 matches. They are now massive odds-on when it comes to securing sixth place or higher, although their odds have been drifting after recent defeats against Chelsea and Wolves.

Newcastle United have fallen behind Chelsea and Manchester United in the pecking order to finish in the top six, according to the bookmakers, with West Ham and Brighton following close behind.

You might not find a competitive price on the Premier League title favourites such as Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool to finish in the top six.

However, betting apps have priced up every other team in the top flight to secure a European spot, and we often get a few surprises in this market like Brighton last season, who finished sixth.

The Seagulls made a strong start to the 2023/24 campaign, although they have since gone off the boil, and that means that they are now trading at odds against to repeat last season's achievement.

City, Arsenal and Liverpool are trading at prohibitive prices to finish sixth or higher, although the bookmakers are less convinced that Manchester United and Chelsea are guaranteed to secure these positions. Both teams have been disappointing in the first half of the season, though Chelsea do appear to have turned things around to an extent.

Here are the latest Premier League top-six odds, from some of the best sports betting sites sites:

Tottenham Look Locked In For Top Six

After the departure of Harry Kane, Tottenham supporters were prepared for this to be a transitional season under Ange Postecoglou, although their expectation levels increased a notch after a cracking first half of the season.

James Maddison has purred for Spurs since his move from Leicester City, and the bookies think a top-six finish is now heavily on the cards.

The fact that the London outfit aren't competing in Europe this season means they can focus on the Premier League, and football betting sites certainly give them a strong chance of finishing sixth or higher.

After suffering a number of defeats already, new betting sites think that Manchester United could also be vulnerable to a finish of seventh or lower. The Red Devils have been stuttering along and some of their recent victories have hardly been convincing.

Newcastle are now regarded by some as an elite Premier League club under former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe,. However, poor form over the last few weeks sees Newcastle in mid-table, staring up at the top six.

Manchester United Odds-Against to Finish 6th or Higher

The season has not gone particularly well for Manchester United, who are currently outsiders to finish in the Premier League top four. They are also trading at odds-against with most betting sites to finish in the top six, with Erik ten Hag's side set for a finish of seventh or lower considering the relative strength of the other leading teams.

Elimination from the Champions League could pay dividends, as a less packed fixture list in the second half of the season. They've been far from impressive though, so they'll need a lot more than just some rested players to make the top six.

History of the Premier League Big Six

Manchester City and Arsenal were a long way clear of the pack last season, with Manchester United and Newcastle also claiming Champions League spots. Liverpool and Brighton were the other teams to make up the top six.

Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United were the top six the previous season, but Leicester and West Ham were able to finish above Spurs and the Gunners 12 months previously.

Leicester also landed fifth spot in 2020-21 during a season where Arsenal finished in a lowly eighth, although the 2018-19 season saw the original Big Six dominate the landscape, and the same applies to the 2017-18 and 2016-17 campaigns.

Consider Cash Out on the Premier League Top-Six Betting

While six teams will be settled as winners on the Premier League top-six betting market, it doesn’t mean that you can’t make a profit in a different way. For example, if you backed Aston Villa at the start of the season at a decent price, cashing out now when they look a certainty mightn't be the best approach. Cash out is available at most of the best sports betting sites, so this option should be available.

This is known as a back-to-lay strategy, and the alternative is that you can include a Premier League top-six selection as part of a season-long multiple bet. This is something that is done with the shorter-priced picks that are combined with other favorites in different betting markets in order to land a bigger price.
