Tip 1 - 12:30 Lingfield – Sapphire Sirocco

Fresh off a course and distance win four weeks ago, Sapphire Sirocco also finished second over C&D in September and had another second place sandwiched in there for good measure. The four-year-old offered very little in his career prior to this winter but seems to have found his preferred distance of 2m, and today’s mark of 48 is just 2lb up from last time out.

Tip 2 - 2:00 Lingfield - Vice President

It’s not difficult to see why Likealot has market support. She has hit the frame in decent races since a debut win, and a win is surely to come. However, we’re willing to take a chance on Vice President, while acknowledging there are ground and fitness questions to answer. Won a maiden at Leopardstown in July last year with some decent horses trailing. Was tried out in three Class 2s in the spring and summer and failed to deliver. First race back since then in a Class 4. Sire Galileo beat virtually all before him, and this contest is eminently winnable if retaining any of that ability.

Tip 3 - 2:05 Clonmel - Great Island

It’s been over two years since Great Island got his head in front and he’s not shown a huge amount in his recent runs. He’s clearly thought of as better than this, given he was sent off at single figure prices in three of his last five runs, when his mark was significantly higher. Tip 4 - 2:22 Southwell - Looping d’Arc

There doesn’t seem to be much opposition in this race for Looping d’Arc, who makes his debut over hurdles after finishing second in a bumper in what was his first race under rules. He couldn’t match a very good winner, but stayed on well to take a comfortable second place. Providing he can jump he could set a very good standard for the others to reach.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time. 

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
