Plenty in good form in this race, but there are question marks about the trip for some of them. Youdecide narrowly missed out on a hat-trick bid last time out over course and distance but could well go one better today off the same mark. Returned from a 151-day break in prime form, with two wins and a second to his name. Can keep the good times rolling now with Ben Jones back on board after missing the runner-up spot 15 days ago.

Tip 2 - 2:33 Haydock - Keep Grating

Keep Grating has enjoyed a solid debut campaign with overall results of 63212 and now drops to his lowest grade yet in search of another victory. His last two races have been handicaps, and despite strong recent form, his mark has remained at 77 throughout and does so again today, so there’s no rise to contend with. He’s one of only two in this race to have competed over this distance, which could give him an edge.

Tip 3 - 3:35 Newmarket - Castlemont

Some exciting prospects in this race, but it is the two Charlie Appleby runners that look most likely to us, given we know a bit more about the other two protagonists. Fortitudine won by 21 lengths on debut and followed up with another win but takes to the turf for the first time, so there are enough question marks to side with Castlemont. Handy winner of both career races to this point and from high-class New Bay, who had stamina for days. The yard is absolutely flying with five winners from last six to post.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
