Our Horse Racing Tips Staking Plan

Each selection we advised is a bet of £10 win single per horse. This is unless it is otherwise stated that is should be a £5 each way bet.

Do be aware that betting on horse racing is difficult to win consistently. Previous performance is no guarantee of future success, and you should only bet with what you can afford to lose.

Horse Racing Betting Tips

Tip 1 - 1:15 Newmarket - Mussab

On a hat-trick after successes at Newcastle and Ayr last month, Mussab has made an excellent start to his career and is now 311 over 5f. The most recent effort was in a Listed contest at Ayr, claiming his first win on turf after managing third at 66/1 in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot. Competition will be stiff here once again, but this colt has already proven himself and looks worth taking on at the odds.

Tip 2 - 2:25 Newmarket - Never So Brave

It’s tough to explain the tail off in form this season for Never So Brave. Seemed an ascending horse last season when winning three big races in a row starting with the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot and finishing with the Group 1 City of York Stakes. He’s now gone winless in his last seven, but that could bring his mark down to a nice number of 112. Oisin Murphy is back in the saddle, and if close to previous form, he will be better than the rest in this field.

Tip 3 - 2:32 Chepstow - Sorgean

Sorgean looked like a horse going places when she hacked up in a bumper. However, things came crashing down on hurdles debut when she couldn’t get close to those in front. Reading between the lines, it looks like there were excuses for her that day as she has subsequently had a wind-op. First time up after surgery could be the time to catch her, especially as her mares allowance has the rest conceding weight.

Tip 4 - 3:12 Chepstow - Doctor Blue

Sam Thomas bids to land this race for the third time, and he has a standout contender in the form of Doctor Blue. Placed in a bumper here at Chepstow, he’s managed just one win from four starts over timber. He also has a runner-up finish in a Grade 2 to his name, and it seems nothing has been left to chance today. He sports two pieces of headgear and has had a wind op, so connections seem to be going all in on today’s seasonal reappearance. He’s gone well fresh before and looks to have a huge chance.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).

Where Can I Watch the Daily Horse Racing Selections Run?

The best place is always on the racecourse but that’s not very practical so when it’s not on terrestrial TV with the likes of Sky Sports Racing and ITV (or ITV 4) then the best way to get instant access to live pictures is with a live streaming bookmaker – try these three below for the best of the bunch. We've also got a page specifically dedicated to Cheltenham Festival live streaming.
