Tip 1 - 2:42 Southwell - Cave Article
The favourite, Huckleberry Sting, might have taken to fences very nicely at the first time of asking, but a 10-pound rise is a lot to overcome. Queens Wish looks attractive, but topweight isn’t going to help. This all points to Cave Article. Found best form between April and June last year, including a course-and-distance win from three pounds lower than today. Hopefully he will be better for first run for 231 days last month. If in the same form as last year, he’ll be a player.

Tip 2 - 3:12 Southwell - Doc Mccoy
Doc Mccoy didn’t have the best of times when first tried over fences, not beating many rivals in his five attempts. However, that was some time ago and it would be no surprise if they have done some work with him off the track since his last effort. It is well worth a try as his chase mark is 10lb below his current hurdles mark, and he even won in October off 5lb higher than his is today.

Tip 3 - 4:00 Catterick - Golden Prosperity
Not much stands out in this race with many struggling for consistency, and Golden Prosperity is indeed one of those with results all over the place but gets the nod here due to his course and distance win last month. That win was of a similar standard to today and he also claimed C&D honours here a couple of years ago.

Tip 4 - 4:42 Southwell - Lheur De Gloire
Better was clearly expected of Lheur De Gloire last time out. After three quiet runs over hurdles, he qualified for a mark of 98 and was sent off at 9/2 for his handicap debut. He weakened a fair way out and was ultimately a well-beaten sixth. A wind op since then may have done the trick and he holds a leading chance for his top yard in this weak contest.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
