Tip 1 - 1:30 Chester - Auld Toon Loon
This should be run at a fairly decent clip, with plenty in the field who like to get on with things. That may just set things up for something coming from the back, such as Auld Toon Loon. He bounced back to form last time out with a win at Windsor on the back of a pair of dreadful runs. Chester is clearly one of his favourite tracks, with a win and a runner-up finish from two runs here. Being drawn in 14 shouldn’t be an issue given he’ll be out the back early and he could be overpriced purely based on the draw.

Tip 2 - 3:05 Chester - Zanndabad
Look back through Zanndabad’s form and you’ll see multiple occasions where he was described as an eyecatcher. That was perhaps never truer than when flying home for third in this race two years ago off a pound lower, having suffered terrible luck in running. He’s been campaigned over hurdles of late, winning twice before coming up short at Grade 1 level. His hold-up style and Chester aren’t always a great combination, but he may well gain compensation for his luckless effort in 2024 granted a clear run.

Tip 3 - 3:25 Ascot - Toyotomi
This looks a fairly competitive handicap, but it can go to the horse with the best previous form, albeit over a year ago, in Toyotomi. Won a Listed a contest in France last April and after some underwhelming performances back in the UK to end the year, he looks to be well treated to be there or thereabouts. Now off a mark of 94, his seasonal reappearance was an encouraging fifth. Winner has since gone in again to frank that form, and he should be in fine fettle for second appearance of the year.

Tip 4 - 3:50 Market Rasen - Ira Hayes
Ira Hayes has looked good recently apart from when failing the stamina test of the Dublin National. He was still there when left alone to win the race last time out so you can’t say he was great value for the win, however has has been sent over on the boat for a reason so there would be no surprise to see him there at the business end again today.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?
We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.
A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.
For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
