Tip 1 - 2:12 Downpatrick - Eben Zaabeel

Eben Zaabeel really caught the eye last time out, including those of the stewards. He ran on strongly in a Limerick flat handicap despite not being given the hardest of times. As a result, the horse faced a suspension. While he needs to prove he’s still in the same sort of form 73 days later, there’s no denying the ability he has. He’ll take a lot of beating in an ordinary-looking maiden if fully wound up.

Tip 2 - 2:55 Chepstow - Geemann

A very weak maiden here, where Geemann looks to have leading claims despite his very modest level of form. Placed twice in a pair of nurseries off marks in the 50s, he doesn’t exactly set a high standard. That said, he’s shown himself to be a reliable sort at the level. Today’s softer conditions should help him out, as he’s been getting outpaced on quicker surfaces. Nothing against him appears to be particularly strong and he’s the solid one in the lineup.

Tip 3 - 3:00 Epsom - Rhoscolyn

The most recent of Rhoscolyn’s 10 career wins came last August off a mark of 96. That win came over a mile at Goodwood with some give underfoot. He returns to Epsom today, where he’s won twice from five visits, rated 84. He’s certainly not the force of old, but there should still be life in the old boy yet, and with his proven ability to handle this tricky track, he may be able to take advantage of his reduced rating.

Tip 4 - 4:10 Ripon - Mark’s Choice

It’s safe to say Mark’s Choice knows his way around Ripon. This will be his 32nd run here, and he’s looking for his 11th course win. His most recent win here came over this trip last September, off a mark of 67. Though he has won off a rating as high as 80 at Ripon if you go back far enough. Even with his advancing years and the fact that he was raised three pounds for a close second in a better contest last time out, this course specialist is hard to ignore off 70.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
