Tip 1 - 1:45 Doncaster - Sergei Diaghilev

Looks some pretty smart prospects in this, and we think it could go to Aidan O’Brien’s two-year-old. Won a Listed race at Gowran Park latest over a furlong further but looked suited to the seven furlongs of this race. Form has been franked with the fourth home since winning a Group 3. There’s a chance the odds-on favourite who has only raced once before could bolt up, but we prefer the slightly more known quantity.

Tip 2 - 2:05 Chester - Cranachan

Being upped to marathon trips could be the making of Cranachan, who sauntered clear over track and trip last time out on his first attempt at two miles. There is no surprise they are running under similar conditions today as there appeared to be a lot more in the tank. He runs here off 88 which, visually at least, looks like a very lenient mark as he looked like a much better horse than that.

Tip 3 - 2:20 Doncaster - Twilight Calls

Twilight Calls has rediscovered form not seen in over four years, going 1211 since he started running with a visor in June. His most recent win was a Class 2 at Glorious Goodwood, having stepped up the grades quickly this summer, and it’s worth noting he’s placed in Grade 1 and Grade 2 outings in the past. Whilst he’s more of a 5f specialist, it’s hard to back against him thanks to a rise of just 4lbs.

Tip 4 - 5:00 Leopardstown - Almaqam

At the prices, Almaqam may be the one to side with. He was comfortably clear of Constitution River and went down by a head to Item, who’s quickly becoming something of a York specialist, in the Juddmonte International. Item could struggle to uphold that form away from his beloved Yorkshire track, and Almaqam already has an Irish Group 1 to his name this year. He’s been slightly overlooked in the betting and looks to have a solid chance.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
