This is a race that any of the five runners could win but Traveling Man gets the nod here after a very comfortable win at Newmarket last month. That was his second go at this distance after a creditable third at Salisbury in July where he finished a little over a length behind the winner. He goes up 5lbs for today’s effort but Mason Paetel, who rode both of those efforts over 1m4f, takes off 3lbs.

Tip 3 - 3:15 Yarmouth - Bill The Bull

Certainly the last three results haven’t done a great deal to provide promise for this run for Bill The Bull. Has been found wanting in much stronger company than today over the minimum distance. Going from Group and Listed races to a Class 4 could be just what is needed for Adam Kirby’s colt. Sole win came in a Class 2 maiden event over 5 ½ furlongs, suggesting that a switch to six should bring about more improvement. Went off joint favourite in a Listed race in July and is down six pounds from that, so this could be his level for the time being.

Tip 4 - 3:22 Naas - Scots Poet

Annie Batt goes handicapping now that she’s qualified for an opening mark of 70. She’s shaped as though she has a race like this in her, having been runner-up twice over five furlongs, with a stinker over further in between. Sticking to the minimum trip with Jimmy Dalton taking off a useful seven pounds, she’s got the best form credentials of anything in the field today.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
