Tip 1 - 3:35 York - Johanna Walsh

Kalpana is the short-priced favourite here, and rightly so. She arrives here off the back of a win in a King George VI race for the ages, featuring just about all of the best middle-distance horses around. It’s worth taking a punt on Johanna Walsh’s potential, though.

Since being upped to this trip, she’s been beaten a head in the Ribblesdale and recorded a dominant win in the Irish Oaks. With her three-year-old allowance, she’s closely matched with the favourite on figures. On what’s just her sixth career start, there could be even more to come.

Tip 2 - 3:55 Lingfield - Gunfighter

Not all that many in this with much form to like in recent times, but this could be Gunfighter’s race to take if he can be more consistent. Won for the first time in 15 races at Southwell in July and then followed up with a flop at Wolverhampton when sent off a 5/2 favourite.

Has three wins and two thirds from nine all-weather races and gave a decent account on only visit here as a three-year-old from a mark of 85. Now rated 69, 13 pounds lower than has previously won from, so he should be in the mix.

Tip 3 - 4:10 York - Vauntingly

There is some decent form shown in this, most notably Prizeland and our pick Vauntingly. Joseph O’Brien’s three-year-old should take advantage of her age allowance having been short-headed in a Listed race last time for both colts and fillies. The third home that day has since won a Group 3, further franking the form.

What is the Staking Plan and How Does a 1pt Win System Work?

We advise each bet as a win single or sometimes as an each way single. You can of course choose to combine the selections in a multiple bet, a Lucky 15 or a Yankee etc and that is a very popular way to follow the horses selected in this column daily.

A 1pt win per horse is advised in general and that means whatever your normal stake is for a bet is used as a point. For many this is £1 and for some this is £10 or more but it is totally relative to the individual and shouldn’t be more than you can afford to lose at any time.

For each way selections we advise a 0.5pt each way stake. So as with the win selections this would be a £1 total bet (50 pence each way) or a £10 total bet (£5 each way).
