In the land of college football betting, the dog is king. That’s why Bookies.com is teaming up with a different animal shelter each week throughout the season to share dogs in need of a loving home.

Our college football handicapper Dan Kilbridge will start by examining the college football spreads at sportsbooks and picking his favorite underdog to cover the spread or win straight up that week. We then connect with a shelter from that team’s campus to share one lovable dog who could complete your family huddle.

It’s all about cashing bets and rescuing pets with Dog of the Week.

We’re riding high after Michigan State upset the Hurricanes for a Dog of the Week hitter. It’s time to do it again and show some love to our two favorite Week 4 dogs – Notre Dame is a +5.5 underdog at Wisconsin on major betting apps and Billie Jean is a three-year-old Boxer Mix out of South Bend who would make a great addition to the family depth chart.

Before we dive in, good news to report: Hamburger, the first dog we highlighted two weeks ago, has been adopted from the the Champaign County Humane Society. Fletcher, who we featured last week from the Lansing, Michigan area, is still looking for a home. Let's get all these pups adopted.

The Pick: Notre Dame +6.5 Vs. Wisconsin

Odds are current at publication. Betting sites may indicate odds changes closer to kickoff.

Jack Coan was fresh off a 10-win season and Rose Bowl bid in his first full year as Wisconsin’s starting quarterback when he broke his foot in training camp. He was reportedly ready to go late in the season and the Badgers were stinking it up on offense, but Wisconsin stayed with new guy Graham Mertz throughout a 4-3 season. The job was his and Coan hit the transfer portal, never to be seen or heard from in Madison again. Or so they thought.

Coan ended up at Notre Dame and no matter what he and teammates say this week, this feels personal for the new Irish quarterback. We like his chances against an overrated Badgers team.

Outside of Coan’s 2019 campaign, Wisconsin has lost seven straight against ranked opponents in the regular season. This defense is good enough until it isn’t – The Badgers haven’t scored more than 10 points in their last four games against Top 25 teams, including a 16-10 home loss to Penn State this season.

It’s gonna take more than that against an Irish offense with Coan at the helm. He’s throwing for 302 yards per game and he saw this Badgers defense every day in practice for three years. He will not be intimidated, nor will he be surprised by anything they throw at him.

Notre Dame’s offensive line needs to do a better job keeping him on his feet against this Badgers front seven and the Irish defense needs to force Mertz into quick decisions – he already has two interceptions with no touchdown passes on the season.

The Irish have caught a lock a flack for close wins over Florida State and Toledo, but a win is a win and Wisconsin hasn’t proved it can do enough offensively to beat a quality opponent in quite some time. We’re on the Irish to cover +6.5 and take care of business in Madison.
