For a franchise that hasn’t met postseason expectations, Tobias Harris is a good scapegoat for the latest turn. The Sixers were eliminated by the rival Knicks in six games, and Harris, who averaged 17.2 ppg on the season, was blanked on 0-for-2 shooting in the clincher. He had attempted 10-11 shots the previous four games but only scored over 10 points once.

Now Harris enters the 2024 off-season as perhaps the No. 1 unrestricted free agent on the market. He’ll be 32 next season, which is younger than all of the other likely pending free agents except Pascal Siakam. The forward could have suitors lined up for months.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has surveyed the landscape to create odds for sports betting on where Harris will be playing in 2024-25.

Where Will Tobias Play?

Harris’ numbers actually improved for the Sixers this past season. His 17.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game all were above the prior year. So, too, were his shot attempts, while his shooting percentage dropped. There remains a belief that Harris could be a very reliable No. 3 option on a contender.

The Sixers have indicated publicly that they would like him back. But Philly is stocked with salary cap room and LeBron James and Paul George are expected to opt out of player options. Harris would surely be the third of three options there.

Playoff teams with money to spend and a relative need at the forward position – that includes the Oklahoma City Thunder and Orlando Magic – could seek a fit with the scoring Harris, who can play both forward spots.

Other teams are going to need an upgrade at SF/PF if they’re to make any kind of real move up the standings. The Utah Jazz and San Antonio Spurs have cash to spend. The Spurs, especially, had nobody at forward to take pressure off Victor Wembanyama.

The Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls don’t, but each could find a way to make it work, if Harris’ free agency quest doesn’t take him into max levels. The Bulls get DeMar DeRozan’s massive contract off the books, offering flexibility.
